Hey guys

It seems that a lot of you have had a great deal of experience with stripping hair of dyes with oh so many different products.. so I pose you all a question before I go to the salon next month. Actually a few questions!

1.How much/what kind of damage should I expect to see (I'm dealing with virgin blonde hair which was recently dyed a rich brown) to get my hair lightened to a golden honey by a color expert in a salon?

2. Are there any ways i could minimize the damage?    

3. Are there any products that I could request to be used on my hair which cause less damage?

If any of you could give me some advice that would be great!

Depending of what kind of dye your hair was dyed with, you can bring a box of Colorfix with you and request they use that to remove the color.  It's low in peroxide so its not too terrible for hair, and is much better than if they just try to bleach it. (I'd call and ask them how they would remove the color and if they would be willing to use colorfix on you if you brought it - or if they already do).  I'm no pro so I forget what kind of dye colorfix won't remove - I think Feria was one problem.  Someone else can better answer this question. 

If it will work, and they will use it for you, they may use it once or twice, and it will turn your hair orange or yellow (they will probably want to do it until it goes yellow since you want blonde), and then they can dye a natural looking blonde color over it.

Thanks Susan,

I had no idea where to start and you've given me something to look into- colorfix. Where can you buy this? (Just incase they do not have it at the salon). How does it work?

Also, I've heard of a product that "shrinks" color molecules so they wash out. I'm not sure of where I heard about this product but does anyone else know anything about it? It sounds like an option so save my hair!

http://www.folica.com/one__n_only_Col_d312.html - Here is some info on colorfix (though the picture is a little misleading, you MIGHT get your natural color back after using colorfix, but many dyes bleach hair a little when they dye it because of the peroxide in the mix, so you more likely would get a shade of orange or yellow and have to re-dye afterwards).  You can pick it up at a Sally or other beauty supply shop.  This shrinks color molecules and is probably the product you heard about.

I have no clue!  I've heard others on this board mention that if you ask them beforehand and bring your own box with you, they are often willing to use the product you want, even if they don't normally stock it.  Anyone else know?
