Hey y'all...Just wanted to let you guys know I updated my album again. This is gonna be it probably until Dec. (yeah right self) so enjoy it while it lasts

I accidently gave myself layers trying to do a do it yourself bootleg salon trim--so there goes my dreams of bluntness and even length all overI Ahhh well. I also did my colourshines in black orchid one mo' gin and it finally came out well this time.

I'll make a temp password for the next couple of days

Sistaslick -

Your hair looks fabulous!  Who needs a salon when you can do it yourself and get results like you do?  Thanks for sharing and keep up the the good work.

By the way, would you mind listing again which ceramic iron you use?  I have reduced the amount of heat I use on my hair (less curling iron use) but am thinking of investing in a good ceramic iron for when I want to stretch my relaxers.  Thanks.

I have an 1 1/4 inch FHI ceramic flat iron (302RVI model) with the red plates.  There is a pic of it in my album in the protective styling album.  I love that bad baby!!!

Can you give instrunctions on giving yourself layers? Also any tips on doing the colourshines? The password doesn't work unless you already changed it.

Yeah I changed it back to the old permanent one now

The only tip for the colourshines I'd give is give it about 10 extra processing minutes.  The first time I did a colourshines rinse I followed the instructions to the T (20 mins with heat) and it didn't take one bit and rinsed right on back down the drain.  I guess my hair is not very porous b/c my hair laughed at that 20 minutes.  I left it in about 35-40 mins this time and it took beautifully

My layers were purely accidental--I was experiementing doing some different types of trimming methods.  But as far as giving yourself layers this is what I did:

I sectioned my hair into 4 parts from front to back with parts going across horizontally.

*the lower back section went from ear to ear a little higher than when your hair begins to 'narrow' toward your neck.

*the next higher section went from ear to ear across the top of my head "crown"

*the next section went from temple to temple

I knew I didn't want to cut off too much so I started with the front section.  I pinned up the other sections.  I combed out the front section and let it fall so that I could judge the length. I didn't want anything below shoulderlength.  B/C I was just trying to do a trim and not really trying to create a layered effect-- I pulled the hair straight up and I snipped straight across at the thin ends.  When I released my hair I found that it made the sides longer than the middle  So I made a vertical part down the middle of the section, regathered the hair, pulled it to right (for the right side/left for the left side)  straight out from my head, clipped it at a slight angle going up like (  /  ) and on the left side of my head like ( \  ). . . Then I gathered the whole section together and clipped the very tips.  I'm probably not explaining this the best . . .sorry y'all

So I did each of the four sections this way.  The shortest layer (front) is shoulderlength, and each of the other ones gradually come down from there.  I didn't lose much length at all and my hair has alot of movement now that I didn't have before.   This way is very rudimentary so if you are unsure of yourself (or don't have much hair to spare) I wouldn't risk it
