| Hi, i am having trouble with matting between my bonds and scalp, this is starting to cause me some discomfort.. what am i doing wrong and id there anything i can do to fix this?? Thanks |

Hi chick, this can be caused either by rubbing your hair when shampooing or a dry scalp. Dont worry as it is easily removed with the oil based remover. Your scalp may be dry for a number of factors which may also be due to you not being allowed any conditioner etc on this area. Just sent you an email there too chick. xx ------------- |

Thanks Shel, what do you mean by 'it is easily removed with the oil based remover'?? Do mean it's ok to leave it until i am having the extensions removed then the remover will sort it out?? Sorry just a bit confused |

| its normal to get some matting between the scalp and the bond. As the natural hair sheds it cant fall and its trapped in the bond, thats what causes the matting. How long have you had your extensions? Because if theve have been in a while and youve had alot of growth then it could be an issue. But the normal little bit of matting at the root area isnt an issue. All you can really do is try to keep them seperated and use a looper brush to brush the root area. The matting should be able to be worked out pretty easily when your extensions are removed or mantenaince done. |

Oh right! Erm think i've had them in about 6 weeks! It only seems to be a few of them that are matted but it is really annoying me as feels like it is pulling?!..if that makes any sense?!..makes it abit uncomfortable and when i try and separate the ones that are matted it feels like the hair needs to be ripped apart as they have kind of matted together  so i have tried to avoid separating?!...

Hey chick, You dont need to seperate the matting as you may damage your hair whilst doing soon especially if you are just pulling your hair appart. This is easily corrected whist you are getting your extensions maintained. If however it is causing you some discomfort it may be because you have tried separating the hair which will pull on your roots or it may be that your extensions have grown down alot more? Where are you getting the discomfort? xx ------------- |

| shel...you dont think its important to get those matted bonds separated? Of course I wouldnt tell anyone to rip them or yank them apart...but I think its important to keep them seperated and avoid matting right from the beginning. |

I also have alot of matting, and when I had GL's I was told to rip them, now I know that you should NOT do that. But, this time around I was tring to be super careful and bought a looper brush, but I still get alot of matting. I am always playing with the shrinks, hoping that I can seperate them, but I am left with a few areas that are all linked together with tangles. I am going to take them out early next week hopefully I will be able to work thru the tangles without losing much hair. ?, when you say they can be taken care of during routine maintance appt. What exactly are you doing during the maint. appt? |

| Erm hard to explain the discomfort just on the scalp where the matted bonds are it just feels as if its pulling. For work i always put my hair in a loose pleat but now this is kind of uncomfortable as when i move my head it feel like my hair is like caught and pulling, if that makes any sense at all?! x. |

| I am by far not the most experienced person here, but I'd say the minute you have matting between the bond and the scalp, it's time to take those bad boys out and get a new install. I welcome disagreement, but that's how I'd handle it sugar. |

Nah, Scotchy- 'cause the matting is just the shed hair getting tangled,
not the stuff that's attached to your own head. I had a client come in
for some pinchbraid maintenance, and she had about a half inch of new
growth and it was kinda matted. She was concerned about the matting,
and I demonstrated how easy it was to take out for her- I took off the
extension hair, pulled the matt apart gently, then combed through
it and pulled out the shed hair. Took me 20 seconds to do, at most. The thing that is a concern is when the sections start getting matted together; the larger a matt is, the harder it is to get out. The sections should be gently worked apart (but not yanked of course). If there's a serious matt going on, one should take those few strands out, detangle the roots, and then put the extensions back in. And to prevent matting, run your fingers across your scalp for a few minutes each day, making sure that all the sections aren't getting too friendly. -Rae ------------- http://www.hairalchemy.net - Hair Alchemy |

I tell all my clients to contact me if they have any probs but i wasn't contacted about any probs re this so this is my first knowledge of ickledee having these probs. Preferably i would like to see any clients so i can see exactly what they are telling me but based on this post this is my reponse.... Hi Sherrie - from what she has written i understand that the matting is between the bond and scalp and not in between rows or colums therefore by sepatating the bonds she will be damaging her hair at the root area imo because separating the bonds is not possible until removal / maintanance as the matted hair is trapped in the bond and until the bond is removed, brushing over it will just pull and snap at the hair. However i undertand that if the matting was between rows or colums that what you say is a good suggestion for that. Ickledee is this what you are meaning?
Ickledee - I have just emailed you re this...Call me so i can get more info on this. I'll really need to take a look also i feel it would be a good idea for me to go over all your aftercare again as alot of the things coming up seem to be things we discussed, just so you understand as with it being your first set of extensions its important your aware of certain things. The bonds shouldnt be soft at this point so i think a visit will be good so i can take a look. Rae- I agree xx ------------- |

Oh and the bonds don't seem to be soft now maybe it was what you said shel and i was leaving them damp for too long after washing! Also with the matting i am only talking about a few bonds which have matted between the scalp and bonds, as this has happened to ones that are next to each other the matting has kind of became one! It probably sounds worse than it is, it's probably just coz i'm new to extensions and don't yet know whats normal and whats not! I was just after some general advice if i was experiencing something i considered to be a serious issue i would always contact you direct Shel
