Hi everyone,

I have had short hair almost as long as I can remember (I think I had it cut short when I was about twelve). Now I am thinking of growing it, but I am afraid I am not patient enough. Every time it has grown a few inches, I go to the hairdresser and have it all cut off again. I think these in-between length do not suit me at all... And my friends say that short hair suits me better anyway...

What do you think? Do you think long hair would suit me? And is it really worth going through the pains of growing it?

All the best

Jane

Have to agree with Debbie.  I think you look great; keep it short.  If you want to try to get some other opinions, I'd post on the "General" board.

Jane,

You are very attractive & while longer hair would look good on you, you look amazing with short hair.

Very true. It's just about changing things around really. If she looks great with lots of different styles, might as well try some of them.

You are very pretty, what's the longest you've been able to grow your hair?  If you have a style you think you might like, send it to me and I'll do a computer simulation for you.

I think long hair might look a bit too childish for such a cute face.

If you want a change go even shorter.  I think the short hair looks great on you.   True a buzz or something?

I don't like this, I've noticed that some people consider long hair "Immature", yet I don't see any long hair lovers considering short hair immature. People always seem to write off stuff they don't like as being childish... it's strange.

I think change is good for the soul and you should have short hair because you decide you want it, not just because its always been there.  If nothing else experiment with a few "medium short" options that will allow you to style it differently, tuck it behind your ears, whatever.  Your current look is very, very short.  Theres plenty of room for new looks without giving that up.  I would recommend trying something new and then going back to the short look.

A lot of women get the idea that they want to have long hair, but a couple of weeks later they get an uncontrollable urge and cut.

It takes a long time to grow long hair, and there will be a series of awkward phases you will go through that will make you desperately want to cut. It takes a real commitment to do this, and nobody can know til they've tried it whether it's something they can tolerate. I think you should start by trying on wigs of different lengths, and if you like one, buy it. Only if you like the length enough to be willing to suffer through about two years of off and on bad hair should you actually try to grow your own.

I had noticed the apparent irony in her words too, but had decided to let it go.  (had.  oh well).  Anyway, I think your comments, Rosalie, are better expressed in the Hair Politics forum.  Thanks.

*shrugs*  I never said long hair in general is childish.  It's long hair+youthful/cutesy face that looks childish.

Anyway, I don't automatically label things I dislike as childish-- I'm well-known to like a lot of allegedly "childish" things, like toys, or Hello Kitty.  I was asked a question, and I answered it honestly.  My personal aversion to long hair didn't really enter into my statements.

I really am starting to wonder why I get argued down for every little thing on the hair boards, however. . .  I'm getting way past tired of having to constantly defend myself on every remark and POV -_- .  I know I post late at night, but am I really that loopy to cause all these misunderstandings?

Seems like Jane just needed some independent opinions--and she got plenty here. Wonder what she decided to do?

No Kuroneko you are not loopy.  She had posted her question on the Short hair board as well as the Long hair board.  And yes, Fatmoogas, I am wondering what she did also.  I have got my suspicions (SP) but I will keep them to myself!
