i have very long hair that i had had many hair tragedys with before, but i suppose i forgot all of those tragedys when i desided to dye my near perfect colored dark blonde hair to a dark brown for a change...  for the last few years i refused to dye my whole head, instead i would pull  my hair through a cap and put on whatever color i wanted a tint of- which worked great for me- my hair was a really pretty color.  but the need for change set in and last week i went and got some nice and easy dark brown color and my hair turned pitch black!  then i waited a few days and tried to put a medium brown over it to lighten it with no result.  now im begining to freak a little because i have no idea what to do!  i definatley dont have money to bring in a proffessional to fix this but i cannot walk around like this and i refuse to cut my hair off and i have no idea what to do to it to make it lighter without turning orange or red.  also the bottom half of my hair is pretty dry with split ends- if i end up bleaching the color out will it completely fry my hair???  somebody please help!!!

If you still want to do your hair at home, try finding a dye labeled "Hi-Lift
Brown" like from L'Oreal Feria. It shows on the box the before and after.
Or you can just go to the salon and get it lightened.

I actually had the same thing happen to me wash it 7 or 8 times to fade it as much as possible condition it well and get 2 boxes of light brown(will turn out medium brown) leave in for the full recommended time and rinse it worked for me and i assure you it will also work for you also deep condition it for 3 to 4 days later do not freak if it is damaged right after you dye it i also recommend getting your hair trimmed when you are done dying it but it is not neccesery :] good luck

go to your local sally beauty and get yourself some color fix. this will remove all of that black color. be warned, it may take 2 or 3 applications before all of this black color will fade out. ten get your self some wella  color charm demipermanent hair color in a medium blonde of your choice (dont worry, it will come out a dark blonde) youll also need the processing lotion from wella colorcharm.

I know this isn't exactly advice on how to do the color but I went through the EXACT same thing a few weeks ago. I went from a really pretty blond to a dark brown for a change. And a change is what I got! I freaked for about 2 weeks.. but it's starting to grow on me and like myself more with this color. Summer is almost over and soon everyone will be changing from blond to brown for the fall.

Maybe you're just going through color shock like i did. I think you should wait a few days and think about it before you do more damage to your hair! It might take a week or more to fully mourn your blond hair! :) (suggestion: perhaps you can get some lighter highlights put through your hair?)

Anywho, good luck with it! :)

Simply applying a lighter hair color is NOT going to change it at all! Because color doesn't lift color. I totally agree with Bryan, you need color fix and a med blonde demi perm hair color.
