A few months back my hair was dyed orangy-med.brown at a saloon and what I was looking for was a more rich light brown.  I waited a month(mistake) and went to another saloon to have it fixed.  Because it was med. orange brown and I was wanting light neutral brown, they used a color remover and then a dark ash blonde to fix it.  It helped, but was still brassy.  I left it because my hair felt pretty dry after that and I didn't want to cause too much damage.

4 weeks ago used a professional hair-dye called Iced Mocha(light brown) by Feria, permanent level 3. The color appeared to have no orange or red tint to it but my hair somehow ended up very brassy again.

I am trying to get close to my natural color which is a light brown.  I have fair skin with rosy undertones so I think I need to stay with cool tones.

The question is, would it be wise to use a permanent med. ash blonde to neutralize the brassiness?  Is it damaging to use level 3 color twice in a 4-5 week period?
Or...should I use a level 2 semi-permanent to neutralize without damage?

I'm wondering if the level 2 will do anything over permanent color.

Sorry for the long email...

Thanks.

This is a hard one.  To be honest i'm not too sure.  The reason it keeps going brassy is because you still aiming for a light colour.  Maybe you should try a semi permenant colour a shade darker than you would like, this would completly get rid of the brassyness and would fade in a few weeks to a lighter colour.

The only other thing I would suggest, is get to a good hairdresser and get a consultation on what they think is best.  If your hair is damaged stripping the colour will not help.

Remember colour will not take exactly on hair that is already coloured, and so when ever you pick a colour, it will never come out that way!!

Mishell, I think the best bet is a good salon with a talented colorist.  You don't want to risk doing anymore damage to your hair.  I think at this point you would just need a demi-perm color with a blue or violet base that would counteract the orange/brassiness you are seeing.  It can be done but it needs to be done by somebody who understands color and how to use it.  Box color can really mess up your hair.  Take it from someone who has been there.

Best of luck.
