Hi there!  I have a question about hair toners.  I recently had a toner put over my over-highlighted hair to tone it down, and wondered how long the toner typically lasts?  I had it done on July 29th.  I think I'm starting to miss seeing the highlights!  Also,  when it does wash out, will the highlights be as bold as they were before the toner was put on?  Just wonderin'..Thanks in advance for any help given!

It probably won't fade completely, and when it does, you should expect it to fade to a yucky color.

I get toners on my hair, it tends to take the yellowness away.  It does fade after a few weeks but not completely, but when it does it will go yellowy again.  I used to get it done every 8-10 weeks when my roots were needing done, but my hairdresser always said that I could come in as early as 3-4 weeks to get it re done without getting my roots done.

Depends how it's looking.  If you think it needs brightening up, then get it done!!

I just thought of something I forgot to ask.  Is it safe to highlight over the already toned highlights?  I want to get some blonde put back in, just not all over as I had before.  I hope this question isn't too confusing! Thank you eKatherine and nikki1701 for your responses!!

Yeah, it's fine to dye over.  A toner is just a dye, so like every other dye, you can dye over.

You can dye over the toner (toner is a basic dye itself) but you can't use a regular highlight kit unless you remove the dye with a color remover like colorfix. I suggest you remove that dye first. Highlighting may be too damaging to your previously highlighted hair.
