ook so I've been dyeing my hair a lot lately, I'll do a little timeline thing to show all that I've done then I'll ask my question. I've done all this in about the past two months

this is my natural color, and this was before I cut it, it was about to my mid back

then I bleached it and added toner to an almost platinum, but I messed it up and the bottom was still dark and it looked bad

so after like 2 weeks I got a medium ash blonde dye at the store and it turned out like this

so that was like a month ago and since then the ash has faded, and it's more of a like yellowey blonde but I touch up the roots and it looks alright. It looks like this now

ok, so I'm fine with the color and everything... but now I want to dye it brown, like dark brown. I'm tired of being blonde. these are the colors I like..

the only thing I'm worried about is I'll dye it dark, hate it, and won't be able to get back to blonde because it's really damaging. Do you think I would be able to pull off such a dark color? I think I would always have to look tan, but Mary Kate, Ashlee, and Nicky all have natural blonde hair and it looks great on them... but then again they're also famous, ha.. would a dark color suit me or should I just stay blonde? And would it also be damaging? my hair's getting pretty damaged and I have some pieces on the top layer that broke off

First of all i think you look great in blonde.

Okay, a long answer to your question:

If you do decide to go darker you will have a hard time going back to blonde. Especially if you go dark brown.
Also remember to get a color that is two shades lighter than the color you acctually want, blonde hair is really pourous and will take in alot of color.
Another problem you could be facing is that to proseced hair can stop holding color, this means that you will have an uneaven color all over your hair.
I suggest a semi or demipermanent color. It is not damaging and you wont have a problem with the color not sticking to your hair either.
But if your hair is damaged you cant really go back blonde unless you are willing to cut out all the damaged parts, but the going brown part is not going to damage your hair anymore than it already is.

Second question;
Yes I think you would look good in a darker brown. Just get a warm brown color and not a natural or cool. (beacause your natural haircolor is golden and not ash) Go more towards mary-kate, she has a warmer color than Nicky and Ashlee simpson.

But be sure before you color. Try on some wigs or play with a makeover program.

Wow your really are stunning anyway you have your hair. Anyhow, what about some dark streaks. A friend of mine, has blonde hair and she streaked it brown and it looks amazing.

Do you plan on doing this yourself or going to a salon? I'd recommend a salon.

If your going to more of a brown I think you'd need to fill in with a red filler before dying your hair brown or you could end up with orangish hair.

the brown lowlight thing seems cool if u wanna a change

but dont dye it all brown it will be matter of days and u'll miss ur blonde i been this situation over 1000000000000000 times and now my hair is REALLY damaged and falling down ,and it will be hard as hell to get back to blonde cuz u'll have alot of red tones in ur hair that u'll have hard time to get them out and ur hair wont take it

u have a very pretty hair i would say get urself some deep conditionners invest in some hair treatments and quality shampoos and if u wanna a change go for brown lowlights and leave ur hair alone

Well, i'm just the person to speak to!!! I have a post on here, where I was deciding to go dark after being blonde for years. I went to the hairdressers on Saturday and asked for golden brown. It is now bLACK!!! It really suits me but I didn't want that!! I know have to go back to the salon on Friday and see if they can sort it.

You really need to be sure if you want the change. It is very hard to go back. You definately have the skin tone for dark hair so I say go for it, but maybe do it in 2 stages. Get some low lights first or dye it a dark blonde, then if you like it go darker and if not it won't be too hard to go blonde again!!

Hope this helps!!

thanks everyone! yeah after thinking about it, I'm too afraid to just dye all of it so I'm getting lowlights, and my friend wants to do something where she dyes the hair underneath dark brown, what's that called?

thats the way lowlights are supposed to be done. lowlights go in the under layer (usually, everyone is different) and highlights go in the top layers (again, everyone is different) i think this would be a wonderful idea. you will still have your blonde, and youll have a change.

Edit: i really liked the ultra light blonde color on you. if you had just touched up the darker sections, it would have been amazing. but, its too late to go back now.

learn to love what you were born with
you can do anything if you set your mindto it (just dont try this with hair, that could turn out bad)

Ok well I got the lowlights, my friend did them actually a few days ago, but they faded to blonde already... so I think I'm just gonna stay blonde

I think you look best in your natural haircolor (the platinum didnt go with your skintone imo), however if your concerned about going darker, why dont you buy a wig and wear it for a week or so to see how you like it?  Yes you can go back to blonde after dying your hair dark brown, but you WILL have damage.

this is what it looked like when my friend put brown on the bottom a week ago, but it faded since then.

I also got this shampoo called Shimmer Lights, it works great, it got rid of all the yellow I had in my hair but some of it turned purple, lol

Where do you get wigs? when I think wigs I think of those long Halloween costume ones, ha, are they at Sally's or something? When I was there I don't remember seeing them

I really liked you with the med. ash blonde. However, I was plat. blonde,
decided to go natural at the salon (med. brown) and it looked great on
me! But I'm just happy for any sort of frequent color change w/ my hair
(and it will end up paying in the end... :( ) Anyway, was the ash blonde
you got semi or permanent? 'cause if you got a semi, no wonder it
washed out... but would recommend waiting a month or so to let your
hair recover, use a deep conditioner once a week, and then do a
permanent ash blonde, but try to do it at the salon if you have the money.
(But stylists can mess up too, as I've learned from this board).
