I have been bleeching my hair for 20 years now and i notice
that the new growth is not strong, but breaks off particulary
around my face. Could I have damaged the hair roots?

I know it is is time to stop bleaching but do I need a complete
chemical break, ie go back to my natural colour. This fills me
with horror as i am the original mousey brownish blondish . Is
there a way to colour my hair without harming it at all?Help! [:^

Yeah if it's breaking off then it's damaged.  Bleaching for 20 years - Jeez!  I'm scared about bleaching my hair for the 1st time (which will happen soon), I'm terrified of over-processing my lovely thick hair!

You can get hair dye without ammonia in - don't know how well they work though.  They're probably a lot more expensive too.

That started happening to me when I was younger.  Evenutally my hair broke off int he back and I had to get it all cut into a short bob!!!  It was terrible!  Be careful!
