As everyone knows, black hair dye is hard to dye over. I dyed
mine black but the novelty wore off a year later, now I'm stuck with
faded black/brown hair and really vibrant roots (of whatever colour
I've tried - currently violet). I want ultra-violet brown hair
(like a purple/brown) but I'm going to bleach my hair with L'Oreal
Super Blonde before it. I know my hair will go orange, but
I'm going to dye over it after with L'Oreal Recital Preference
Ultra-Violet Brown. It says on the Super Blonde box, in effect,
that it's the perfect product for me to use before Recital Preference.
On reading the "Bloopers" here I'm really scared by the horror stories
of over-processing hair. I've never bleached my hair before and
dont ever intend to again after this - but I want the black to go.
Will what I have planned work?, and is there a big chance I will
over-process my hair (my hair is currently recently dyed violet (pfft,
black I mean) with Recital Preference and it's in thick, strong
condition - I've just started deep-conditioning my hair before the
bleaching too.)
Help would be much appreciated - I have to sort my hair out for college in a month, at the moment it's not how I want it at all.

Is it really necessary to bleach then darken your hair again?

its because if she doesnt bleach, the color wont be as vibrant and not as easy to see. i say go for it. if you really want to. goodluck.

Yeah, it seems that way - I don't think there's any other realistic
solution to my problem. I don't see how else I'll be able to get
rid of the black. Any suggestions? (Except "Grow it out", that
would take about 6 years!)
Thanks for the support Ammonia.

Black ends with violet roots sounds really cool looking to me!
Sure you don't just want to keep it that way and cut off the black as
it eventually grows out?
If you do want to bleach it, be careful what color you put on
afterwards. It may come out orange after bleaching, it may come
out yellow. I'm not familiar with Ultra Violet brown that you
mentioned, but if the base is violet and you use it on orange hair,
your hair may stay quite reddish or orangy looking. Depends what
you're going for. I'd research more about the base of the
products (you may need to call the company and ask them if it's a boxed
color).

No believe me, it looks silly :) I'd rather have my hair one
colour. I know it would be the ideal thing to do, but I'm really
impatient :).
The Recital Preference is reccommended on the Super Blonde box for use
after Super Blonde...so I just presumed that the colour would go on ok
afterwards...it's things with metallic salts in (like Feria) that I
couldn't use with it.
What do you think?

Okay, well, like I try to say as often as I remember to, I'm not a pro,
just a do it yourselfer. I'm not familiar with these products so
I can't tell you what they will do. I always stuck with stuff
from the beauty supply shops where I could read the base on the color
to control what I was doing. I hope it works out, and whether it
does or doesn't, let us know how it goes!
