I found a few 'tips' on this board earlier today and I wanted to share a success story.

I have naturally medium/dark blonde hair. I have been using Clairol Herbal Essences XL0 for about a year. It's the most platinum blonde they have. I wanted to tone it down a bit. I called them and due to the fact my hair had XERO pigment, they told me I needed a filler and they didn't have one. They told me to see a professional. Well, I can't afford it.

A quick internet search found Lock-In Blonde. The instructions needed to be quadrupled due to my long hair.

I only wanted to 'tone down' the platinum and still stay light blonde. I chose Clairol Herbal Essences 10-Magic Opal.

Success! It came out perfectly! Even tone.....more ash than gold. I'm so ecstatic I had to share! It did end up a tad lighter than the lightest shade on the box, but I couldn't be happier!

XL-0? (which I don't even see on their website anymore) Yes, yes it did. That was all I used.

Keep in mind my hair had been already been 'lightened' to a lighter blonde than my natural color. I had been using Loreal Garnier Nutrisse 102 Extra-Light Pearl Blonde (Meringue) for some time previously. For some reason, I had decided to go even lighter.

I do have a question, though. I had just done my roots last week, so my hair was all one color. What's going to happen when I need to touch up my roots in 4 weeks? Do I put the filler on before or after I put color on the new growth? I would think that my virgin hair wouldn't need filler. I'm using filler again in order to see if it will color more closely to the desired color.

I'm trying to find info on Ardell (the company who makes Lock-In Blonde) to contact them directly....with no luck.

How did you order the lock in blonde? It says that it's a discontinued item...

I got it at Sally's Beauty. They sell it in one-time application packets AND little bottles. :)
