How about an second conditioner? What you can do is do a light conditioner such as Suave or White Rain, then rinse, then do your regular conditioner. This would come after a regular shampoo wash... so wash, condition, condition.

I had the same problem as you, my hair was dry and puffy and VIVE basically "straightened" it out without damaging it!

You may want to start by upping your fluids.  I have noticed when I make a true effort to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, my dry strands noticeably soften.

Also....using jojoba oil as a deep conditioning treatment just on the dry sections will help.  I also do what AnaisSatin mentioned and roostertail my conditioners.

I recently went through a hair color disaster...at the hands of my professional hairdresser (long horrible story) and my hair was painfully dry as a result of getting everything fixed. 

While I was trying to deal with the super dry hair I would shampoo with 1/2 teaspoon of ARTec Smoothing Conditioner in a 1 quart bottle of lukewarm water.  Yes..I shampooed with conditioner.  Then I would rinse well and apply RF Karite deep conditioner.  It is so rich and creamy that it instantly softened my dry crunchy hair.  It is expensive though so I used only a little on the super dry sections.  Then I rinsed again and finished w/a cool water finish.  Then I used a leave-in conditioner.  I like Phyto9 because it has macademia nut oil which would not work for someone with fine/thin strands...but I also like Aveda Curessence spray as a good detangler/leave-in.  

After a few weeks of that routine and lots of water...my hair softened considerably.  There is nothing eeckier than dry hair.  It just feels bad to me, like my hair is about to crack.

After years of perfect Matrix Socolor subtle blonde highlights I wound up with red roots, chocolate brown middle and blonde ends.  My (now former) hairdresser decided to switch me from Matrix to Redken w/out telling me first or even asking if I was OK with it.  I was shocked when I discovered that she had glopped a completely different brand on my head. I had a color line that was horrible.  The Redken burnt my scalp and my eyes watered for days.  Then I had to have the color stripped which left my hair dry as a bone.  It was a horrible experience.   My hair is almost back to the way it was but lots and lots of conditioning and TLC. 

Yes...nothing hurts worse than a too tight braid.  I probably would have taken it down as well.  But yes, it was nice of her to do that and probably good that she didn't clip too much hair.  That would really have sucked.

The thing that was most frustrating about my hair color disaster was that I specifically reminded her when I called that Matrix SoColor 11N was what she used on my hair and that she did foils.  Then she got to the appointment 20 minutes late (I had her first appointment at 9:00 am) and she had me sit in the chair and put the rubber cape on and then next thing I know she is glopping this brown gook all over my head.  I freaked and asked her what she was doing and she said...Oh well this will work just as well but much faster.  I was confused and said...but is it Matrix?  And she said...oh yes.  Just a little different version.  And I kept saying...but will it lift?  And she said yes.  And she had me sit there while the color "set". The rest is history and I was horrified.  She never did admit it was Redken until after all the damage was done.

Yes...very infuriating.  I have to believe that I had to go through this to understand even better the pain and sorry that people go through when they have hair diasters that occur at the hands of their hairdressers.  I get so many weekly emails about disasters but now I know firsthand how heartbreaking it can be.  And how frustrating to try and figure out what to do. 

My hair is recovering with help from lots of deep conditioning (I started using RF Karite and am very impressed) and lots of TLC.  I did have to have some split ends removed (sigh) but all and all I think I escaped with no long range damage.  Still hunting for a new color expert.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Thank god for my many hairdresser & haircolor friends around the country that stepped up and helped me recover from the red roots and brown middles.  I am back to all blonde now.  WHEW.  Close call.

I have very dry hair also...What's been helping mine is once a week I wash my hair and then put Neutrogena triple moisture conditioner in and sleep with it in my hair. I wear a shower cap to bed. It really really moisturizes even better than my Redken Heavy Cream.
