Okay... So after reading some tips on getting better hair, most of you guys suggested using oils.

See, my hair really sucks. It's wavy-ish, thick, dry, poofy and frizzy. It's also short. Usually I put in pomade and leave-in conditioner and it calms the frizziness a bit. But it's still sorta poofy. My hair looks the best if I don't wash it for four or more days. (it's not poofy, it feels softer...) But the problem is, it's dirty and doesn't smell that great, and I'm forced to wash it.

I realize my hair lacks moisture. (hence the frizzies) Most of you recommend jojoba oil for dry hair... But how would I put it in? Should I leave it in? Wash it out...? And are moisture/oils really the answer to my poofy hair?

Or are there other products I could use to make my hair less poofy/frizzy and more moisturized?

Oh, and, by the way, for shampoo and conditioning I use the Brilliant line by Aveda.

Hello Sasumi,

If you're lacking moisture, oils won't necessarily "add" that moisture back. Oils tend to work by keeping the moisture in, as long as there's already a good amount of moisture to begin with. For moisturizing, you'll want to up the amount of conditioner you use (you can do this by experimenting with a different http://anaissatin.freespaces.com/cleansingmethods.html - wash method ).

For frizzies, I find that a blend of unrefined/refined shea butter works great.

Hope this helps

Anais

I like to use Jojoba oil

I usually use mine when it's been a few days since my last wash.

You put a tiny amount, just a drop or two in your palm. Rub your palms together. Then starting at the ends you basically just touch your hair with your hands.
Most people do not put it on the scalp hair and only put it on the length.  But I do put it on my top hair. I don't mind if my hair is a bit oily though.

Jojoba is a light oil that is one of the closest to your natural sebum / scalp oil. In your case I would say start out with only 1 drop.

I leave the oil on until it gets washed out whenever the next wash comes.

But Jojoba is a versitile oil. Other people apply it in other ways. Hopefully they will answer. Otherwise look around this board and also over on the long hair support board. I know there's some oil threads over there.

Oh, okay, thank you, Anais Satin. I didn't know oils just kept the moisture in...

But I'll try one of your conditioning methods, and then I'll try putting some jojoba oil in afterwards.

Thank you both!

Jojoba is FABULOUSSSSS!!!! And if it doesn't work out for your hair, it makes for such UNBELIEVABLY SOFT SKIN.  I think I first learned about jojoba by reading one of PurpleBubba's really old posts on another board. ((hugs to go around))
