I gotta question.basically ive seen a lot of people say its really easy for them to get waves, all they gotta do is brush in the morning and thats that.and then the reasoning behind that is explained as being because they got some kind of mix in them e.g.white,puerto rican e.t.c.but then we all know the key to getting waves is the curls and the coils in your hair, the nappier your hair, the more waves you will get.so how does this make sense.surely someone with mixed heritage their hair AINT going to be as nappy as someone whose full black (obviously there are exceptions but the majority).im askin because im 3/4 black my mums is mixed race, but waves dont seem to be THAT easy for me,even though my hair is quite soft compared to the average n!gga.and i got a couple dark skinned homies with n!gga hair but all they gotta do is brush in the morning and the muhfu<kers r spinnin, someone help a brotha out here!....

well that's hard to say cause just because someone is mixed they can still have the same hair texture that someone who is mostly black(I say mostly black cause we all got lil bit of another race in us)

If you had ask what type of hair gets waves faster nappy tightly curled hair or straighter hair I would say the nappy culy hair. It is much harder for someone with with straighter hair to get waves, they have to brush more and have their hair longer. And to tell you the truth 360waves look better with nappier hair, I mean the 360 pattern is more visible and more defined. Nappy hair gets a better connection than staighter hair. The only thing that makes straighter hair look better is because their waves are thick and spaced out.

I'm not hating on dudes with straight hair cause I do like their waves I'm just saying the pattern for nappier hair is better cause it has a better chance at getting perfect.

True, it is easier for peeps with coarse hair to get waves and maintain them. Straight hair people tend to have trouble maintaining a 360 waves pattern. I think there is a misconception that straight hair people get waves easier. No their hair lays down easier, waves is another issue altogether. I will say that straight hair people waves are more spaced out and may even have deeper waves, but coarse hair responds better to waves than straight hair because the curls are already there from birth. Striaght hair people have to work for the curls.

I think Americans tend to say straight hair looks better than coarse hair, which is why so many Black people admire straight hair and think it is better, NOT. You have to remember that African Americans are under pressure to look, dress, talk, and act like white people in order to fit in. White people are not accepting of African hair styles. They perfer straight hair that look like their own hair. This has a bias affect on young black MEN who have mothers that strighten their hair or wear WEAVE that looks white.  Straight or coarse hair, waves still look good on both hair textures.

People this is just what I think, but it can be proven by historical facts of racism within our own race. Check your His Story, not their history.

Yes we do. There is no pure race anymore, just 1/2's, 1/4's, 3/4's.

But there is a such thing as the "One Drop Rule" which was created by white men. They say if you have one drop of African Blood, you are a Negro. This is why so many people are confused about their race because of American bias attitudes about race and culture. Many other countries don't think like Americans. They look at American Blacks and shake the heads in disbelief and pitty. They say we have slave mentalities and don't know it. This is why America  has so many racial problems.

America is base on white peoples domination over all other races. They depend on us being confused and unsure about our own culture. They want us to be ashamed of our hair texture, coarse or straight. They want us to be bias toward each other. They confuse us about our own culture and race so they can dominate all who are confused. Does that sound like something the Nation of Islam, the Native Americans, Latin Americans, Asian American, African Americans, and all other race of people would say. It's true and we all know it's true. The question is, Why do we buy into this domination and subordination system? Because it has been forced on all of us by the rich white people who enslaved us and stole our culture, land, and freedom. Think about Iraq and how they will be forced into a white dominated sociey in the HOLY LAND of Mecca where Jesus and Allah walked. They too will be confuse about thier own culture, religion, and even hair textures like us.  Domination and confusion like Black poeple. We are truely living in the last days where man will destroy MAN. Think about it cause it's already happening!

some true stories being spit.but then we can all say we are conformin to white ideals but isnt trying to get waves in the first place conforming to white peopls perception of "better hair".why cant we accept our nappy hair, why we spendin hours brushin our hair every day.why our shorties gotta relax their hair?...its a cycle

Sean85 has a point...

Whne you look at it, you are altering/ manipulating your hair texture to appear a certain way. If you didn't have waves would you still like your own hair or would u cut it off because it's not the ideal texture?

Mike you got some knowledge going on, too.

Just some stuff to think about.

I would keep my natural hair. Actually I have waves is my natural hair anyway. I was born with waves in my hair. If I never put pomade in it, I would still have some waves. I've always worn my hair short and natural. Before that I wore braids, platts and afros, never wore a Micheal Jackson Curl. In my family there is a strong African American pride. Both of my parents were Black Panthers. They both still were braids and afros right now. Out of 15 of my uncles and aunt (all from the same parents) 12 of them are social activist, preachers and teachers. One of my aunts teaches African History and Dance and she were dreads. My other aunt is the CEO of Girls Inc. a spin out of Dallas Girls Club Inc., she teaches african pride to all of the little girls who don't have fathers. My uncle is the pastor of his own church for over 20 years. He wears his hair natural too.

So as you can see, I'm not changing my hair for nobody. But there is a strong pressure from people outside of my family to conform to what society say is "good hair". My mom breaks down and perm her hair, but it's already thin and stringy like white peoples hair anyway. If she never did anything to it her hair would still look white because of the texture. She's light skin already too. So she fits in without changing herself too much.

It's always good to have a family that is very supportive of one another. I must say that my family has great pride, however, I am the only natural female in the family. So as you know I stand out. But my parents are very supportive in my decision, once they weren't but I asked them of their pride, teaching me of my history and the creator. It was very thought provoking, it forced them to think looking like-->.

Anyways, since we are talking about complections my mother is dark brown and my father is pretty light. We all thought my dad was a white man and he use to get upset when we asked our mom how come our dad was white. Yeah, I know it was strange but when I saw other blacks on tv such as the reruns of good times, light complected people weren't really on there. Please, I know Michael the son was light skinned but compared to my dad he wasn't. Anyways my father is light skin with the kinkest hair and I don't have a problem with that.  Why did I mention that? Because many African Americans seem to believe that if you are light complected that you must have loose textured hair, as if we can't have diversity amongst us. It is really sad.

But you are doing a good job with educating  the young men on here. Keep up the good work.

Oh did I mention I have a light skin cousin, who hair texture is just like my hair, "Nappy Roots".  He too has coarse hair, but he also 360 spins. You see he's a member of this site too. Cousin, don't reveal youself just keep it low. I think there is a misconception about hair textures and skin color.  In the African American race their are people of many colors and many hair textures. "One size does not fit all". But one thing is true, we have lost some of our African culture over the past decades because of misconceptions.

"Ignorance breeds fear, fear breeds anger, and anger breeds destruction without a cause. I bid everybody peace and a long life".

i think that is easier for people that are all black. b/c of the texture of their hard. knowing that the coils in our hair make our waves and its harder for straight hair to become coiled.
