Hi Folks!

I recently gave my hair a huge chop (from long, mid-back to an above-the-chin bob), and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do the "messy" look. I wore my hair long most of my life, and despite having straight, fine, yet thick hair, I managed to make "the messy look" my personal trademark.

http://www.hairboutique.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=34566&PN=1 - Here's a previous post with a sample picture of what my hair looks like (only shorter)

As much as I like my sleek bob, I want to achieve a "messy" or "flippy" look. Is this possible with the bob? If so, how do I go about styling it? I'm CLUELESS in the ways of styling since I've always left my long hair alone, in a bun,  in a ponytail, or in waves. I am not familiar about what styling products I must use to achieve this textured look.

Here are a few examples of the look I want to achieve:

Thank you!

You might need layers or choppiness in your style to do a messy look well.  But you can try just experimenting in front of the mirror with styling products, and see what you get.  Just like tousle it to mess it up, and then try to smooth down or redirect anything that's sticking up weirdly, until you get something you like.  I'm no messy-hair expert, though, so maybe someone else knows better tricks?

Hi Lovebobs!

I'm not really one to post a pic of me :P I'm moving right now, but once my computer is set up in my new place, I'll post away :)

KatieKat,

Get some TIGI Manipulator...the absolute best styling aid for this sort of look.  Dip fingers in jar (you only need a little) and then warm it up by rubbing fingers of both hands together.  Play with it on dry hair.  Doesn't build up and is not waxy or greasy.  Good Luck!
