Girls-
I have a client who is flying from Texas. Out of all the days of
the month, she insists on taking the last minute flight to
Pennsylvania! She's spending triple plane tickets and plus it's
Labor Day Weekend so tickets are very costly!!! She even
begged me to work overtime and already I'm heavily booked for
tomorrow and Sunday but will stay in my shop and wait for her.
Her appt. is 7pm at night! OMG!!!
What do you think is a nice gift for her? Mark B. gives us $100
travel discount when I took his class. His class is $1200, but it
came out to be $2000 with flight, hotel, etc...
She bought my volume savings- so she is going to see me for a
very long time. But how many of these 'gifts' is given? She's
looking to travel to me like every 2 months!!! I love all my
clients and want them to have the
most pleasurable trip ever!!!
Opinions please,
Thank you so much, Charlene

Do you really need to give her a gift, Charlene? Have you met her yet? I think just the fact you're working the entire weekend into the night is gift enough at first...then when she comes again, you will know her a little better and maybe give her a little something then. Doncha think?!
That's a nice thought, tho. Maybe a venti Starbucks coffee and a pumpkin scone.

Thanks Syren!
I haven't met her yet. Yeah, I know about the hard work. I also
told her I could have a car pick her up and her b/f. When her b/
f called to give the credit card, he thought that the ride was
going to be for free. I intended to give a $100 dinner gift
certificate but after the b/f thought the ride was for free- so then I
said 'okay I'll take care of the ride' $170 from Newark airport
and just give her a free take out. Sh*sh what if she wants the
driver to wait for her while she's getting the extensions and then
drive her again to her hotel close to the airport. I'm screwed!!!
Now I'm thinking what about if they want me to keep on giving
free rides for the next how many visits- sh*sh it's not worth it
financially.
My goal is to please my clients as much as I can even if I have
to go out of my way . I know I'm crazy but, it just makes
me feel better
OMG!!!

Gosh...you are already bending over backwards to take good care of her. I would think she should be tipping you for waiting in your shop until 7 pm for her. I think you are already showing her that you are terrific and really willing to please her. I agree....Starbucks and a scone is wonderful. :-)

And Charlene, you're not Mark B and she's not coming for a class! You're one person and she's coming for your services - no one expects you to give them dinners and limos! As long as your salon is nice, you're nice, and her hair turns out awesome, it will be the best experience possible, don't worry about that. You're just too nice.
Karen, are you a legend?!
(bows down...)
Then..then...I'm honored, too!

Thanks Syren, you are so helpful!!!
I've learned my lesson. Perhaps, I'll start some kind of a 'travel package'.
OK, I have to let this sink in- 'If you were my client, coming thousands of miles away, you would be satisfied with starbucks and a scone?'
But I have to include the free goody bag just so they could care for their extensions the right way!
You are so cool!!!

If I were your client and I came 1000s of miles to see YOU, I would certainly not expect you to buy me dinner and pay for my limo. Okay, coffee and a scone - not exactly a 'gift' - more like an amenity. But a goodie bag! Now you're talking! Put some good, exclusive, salon only-type stuff, maybe a great brush, some products and THAT would be a nice gift!
Charlene, you're working really hard to show your work and make yourself known. One of these days, it won't be such a novelty to have people travel long distances to see you! Soo..just get used to it! LOL
Good luck. I hope it all goes very well and your client is very happy.

I think a nice thing would be to give her a discount like 10% on her follow-up visit. With food, not everybody has the same taste. I personally don't like coffee or starbucks. I give my clients small discounts.
