I don't really use diffusers but they aren't for any certain hair type.  What look are you going for?  It would work best for a wash and go type style, nothing straight.  All a diffuser does is diffuse the air from your blow dryer so that it dosen't disturb your curls or waves when you blow dry and cuts down on frizz. If you are going for a natural wash and go type style it should work fine for you.

Maybe some type of gel, I use Fantasia IC gel, depends on what kinda hold you want.  I'm not sure what your hair would look like cuz I don't know your hair type.  If your hair is relaxed I'm guessing it would come out some what wavy or with some loose curls and it will probably be some what frizzy unless you use a lot of product.  Do you know what kind of hair type your natural hair is?  Mine is a 3b with some 3c and 3a in there also.  You might want to check out this hair type chart so you can figure out your hair type and that will help some of the other ladies on the forum help you with your hair......... http://naturallycurly2.com/curl411/types.php - http://naturallycurly2.com/curl411/types.php
