for those of you that have had hair extensions put into your hair whether it was hairlocs, great lengths, etc how does it feel when you sleep?  What is the tension like when the person does it correctly?  I would imagine that its something that you would have to get adjusted to if you're a first timer. Also can the hair be put up? or installed in a way that it can be worn in various styles?

Another really pressing question I had was more specifically for african americans that have relaxed hair.  I would imagine that you or your client would have newly relaxed hair when they come in.  How is it possible to relax the hair w/o in some way shape or form affecting the extensions (referring to hairlocs)? b/c when a relaxer is applied the first time around. The stylist goes back w/ the back of the comb to check if its processed how do the extensions affect their ability to do it?

I've had extensions feel uncomfortable for the first few nights and then you get used to them, especially with shrinkies and extentubes, they seem to mould to your head after a couple of nights.  Of course the hair can be put up, you just don't place the extensions right to the edges of the rows when you're doing the underneath and sides.  Most people have it like that.  I can't comment on relaxed hair though chick xx

Well I've only done two installs on myself but here's what I can add.

I put in shrinkies and bonded wefts. Both are light and easy feeling on my head. The shrinkies felt a little tight (as in root tension) at first but after a few days, they were fine. They never hurt or anything. The shrinkies were a little more difficult to sleep on. At times I felt the hardness of those little things and had to find a comfortble  head position. My scalp felt itchy a lot.

Sleeping with the wefts is a breeze, I don't even know I have extensions in. They never felt tension tight, but the first couple of days I felt pressure I guess you could say because the glue had seeped through the weft and to my scalp. Again it didn't hurt but I was aware of it and now (it's only been 5 days) most of the bonds have left my scalp and are only on my hair. It's not itchy at all.

I would do both methods again. I like them both.

My hair is naturally short so pulling my hair up isn't going to be an option (I'd have little short nape hairs sticking out) but I've read that there are creative ways to wear hair up with wefts, shrinkies or anything else.

Back to the tension, when installed correctly, I think feeling tension, even a little tenderness the first day or so is normal, depending on the method but I don't think there should ever be pain.

Again, I'm not all that experienced....

ye i think they are jsut a bit uncomfortable at first but after a few nights the bonds loosen and kinda shape to your head. i jsut wear my heair in a loose pleate with a soft scrunchie to stop tangles and i also wear a silk night cap thing ( which my bf adores )

it feels weird at first but you get used to it

I have to take a couple advil when I first do my install, that or have a couple glasses of wine (never both).  It takes like four days of misery and then it's all cool.  It's like that weird feeling when you get a full set of nails..... then a week later you can't even tell they're there.

I don't know about african american hair.  That's something that interests me.  Good luck

every time I get extensions (except weft bonding) my head hurts for the first couple of days.  It has nothing to do if it was a bad install or not.  Pop a couple tylenol PM and learn to sleep on your face.  It's easier then it sounds
