I am a newbie looking to have healthier hair first... Then thicken and grow my hair from where it is now (3" past shoulders) to mid-back length... So by looking at the different threads, I am noticing that everyone pretty much just keeps their hair in a protective style daily and lets it air dry when they wash, etc... I usually wear a long fall (where I style & incorporate small front sections of my own hair), or back in a bun... But I know once I start seeing my progress I will want to show off my healthy, full head of hair!!! So my question is (for those who *DO* blow dry and flat iron): Exactly WHEN do you style it sleek and straight to SHOW OFF your "progress", and how many times do you do that a month? I keep the heat on my head to a minimum (once every 2 weeks maybe), but I absolutely CANNOT go without blow drying and flat ironing when I do style my hair - especially when the dragon (new growth) starts to unleash... Let me know what you do, or give me ANY advice. THANKS!

On the norm, I usually wear my hair out about 1 week out of a month. I've used heat maybe 1-2x in the last few months because I rollerset, airdry and wrap my hair( I love the body & bounce!) But the protective styles get a little boring so I have to let it out to breathe every now & again. ------------- ~~  LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE!~~

I wear my hair out for special occasions (like when we got out of town, or company is coming over). Usually a couple of days out of the month. I also straighten it with heat when I am doing a trim I haven't been using heat lately though b/c I am on a 6month no heat challenge that ends in December.-------------

I usually use heat once every two weeks but I don't blow dry, I just don't like it cuz it feels like my hair is frying so I put it back in a pony tail and tie it down with a scarf and sit under the hair dryer then I flat iron. I haven't used heat in months now mainly because my hair is so curly that during the summer months it wouldn't stay straight no matter what I did so I've just been wearing it curly. I've decided to continue to not use heat for a while longer because I'm liking my progress and my hair seems healthier. ------------- |

I try to wash / roller set / hood dry my hair 1x/week & moisturize 1-2x daily. I wear it down 3 days/wk mostly at work / home. Balance of the time I wear it up in a ponytail or twist. I wear in a pony tail on my way to work because with all the rushing and how hot is in in NYC in the summer (subway platform is hell) it gets too hot if I keep it down. |

I flat iron about once every 3 or more weeks but I wear my hair out like once a week.

The last time I really used heat in my hair and wore it down was July 10th! Since then I've been trying wash and go styles. I'll wear it down for my birthday in October and for the holidays(maybe). Other than that, I'm really liking wearing it up. Especially since I can make a good bun now!! I'll probably wear it in a bun, alternating the style for most of the time. I wear my hair down most of the time but it's so straight that i don't hhave to flat iron but once a week after I wash. My hair seems to be doing well b/c when I wear it up a lot it tend to break in the crown and I don't wear my ponytail tight so I don't know why it does that. but I'm thinking it's b/c of the relaxer that's why I'm growing it out. -------------
