'k, I've had this thing over the summer of having my hair colored dark
auburn with blonde highlights. I'm a natural blonde, wanted to try the
darker hair thing for a while. Well, now I'm done with darker hair, and
wanted to get the red out so I could match up my blonde hair with the
Plastikhaar samples and then order.

So I bought a box of Nice 'n' Easy in a light neutral blonde and just did my
hair with it. I used the entire bottle, and kept it on 33 minutes. (Didn't
wanna keep it on for the max 45 minutes because I was afraid my
already-blonde highlights would frizzle and fall off my head.)

My hair is barely any lighter! What'd I do wrong here? I've done the DIY
super-blonde thing before, not with Nice 'n' Easy, but how different can it
be? Seriously, I've still got the dark auburn streak through my bangs, and
then all the hair on the lower part of my head is still dark auburn. I
thought red was supposed to be the hardest color to keep in hair, fades
quickly, but this red is sticking to my hair like glue.

So can I go back to the store, buy another box o' lightener, and do it
again today? Or do I really have to wait another week before bleaching
again?

Rule # 1.. Color dose not remove color

Thanks for the tip on the color forum.... I'll probably end up just washing
my hair 5 times a day to see if I can coax that red out.

(Hmmm, pink hair, would love to see my hubby's eyes get as big as
dinnerplates when he saw that...)

Sweetheart,  tint will never lift tint..... but if you can get a lot of the red to fall out, it might.

These methods are true and do work to one extent or another.

1 MOST GROSS--collect up as much cigarrette ashe as you can, a soup can full is pretty good.  Next, shampoo your hair twice with Dawn Detergent (Dawn is the harshest), then mash the cigarrette ashe onto your hair, whilst wet and roll it around for 10-15 minutes.  Follow up with another dawn shampoo (I add a tbls of powderbleach and 2tbs 3% peroxide. to the shampoo here.

This will get to the heart of the matter and let you know what you really need done before you do something irreperable with bleach.  Cheers, christina

hmmmm cigarrette ash....

OR

Go to sallys and get a little bottle of "unred"

Mix with a glob of conditioner untill its a meduim purple color and apply to towel dried hair.

Do something productive for 20 minutes.  I recommend watching southpark.

Rinse out.  voila.

I offer my profoud respect to Kalika,  and I admit that cigarette ashe is absurd,  but there's something about it that lifts tint.

The thing about Unred,  is that it tones red, which will leave you with a muddled color, and further away from blonde than you are now.

But believe me,  I'd think twice about taking advice that sounds like mine, received over the internet.

   good luck

all it does is help remove red, it doesnt lift color.  Thought it would be good before she stripped the color and bleached :)

I agree with Marie and Scotchy, color does not lift color.  You need to go into a salon where they will have to use either a color remover or of course good ole bleach will work, but it's harsh.

Bought a bottle of One'n Only ColorFix, it had some good reviews, so I'm
waiting for it in the mail. (if anyone has a horror story about it, I'd love to
hear it before I dump it all over my head.) Argh, I wish we had a Sally's up
here in Alaska to get some unred! Yeah, I probably should go back to my
stylist to have her take out the red, but I've been spending a lot o' $
lately, thought I'd try to give my hubby a break.

I dunno where I'd even find cigarette ash.... Scotchyroo, I think you
forgot to include the eye of newt I'll also need for that recipe of yours.

Yep kalika's right.Colorfix will most likely leave you orange. But you've got the right idea stripping out the color first.
