Hi,  I have short hair and it's sort of a mousey brown that I get highlighted to look blonde.  However, since it's short, my hairdresser doesn't highlight all the way down the back of my head, so that stays dark.  After just one cut, a lot of the highlights disappear and so I'm wondering if I should just get a permanent color in blonde to help keep the color longer.  However, will that look fake?  Will it look crappy when my roots grown in?  Any thoughts?

It will look fake if they give you hair that is too yellow if yellow doesn't go with your complexion. If it does, you'll be fine. If they give you an ashy shade of blonde, or a dark shade of blonde, it should also be fine.  It will just look more like highlights when you get some cut off as the roots grow in.  (Frankly, I always liked how it looked on short hair when the dye has grown to the point where you see the roots and it looks like highlights, but that's just a personal opinion).

Thanks for your opinion.  I appreciate it.  I just can't decide what to do, but I know I don't like what I'm seeing in the mirror right now.  I also toy with just growing my hair out so my entire head can be highlighted.  Oh, what to do, what to do!
