Ok, so it looks like the N.O. area is going to get hit again. I just wanted to send out good vibes to Kalika to stay safe and dry.
I live just north of Houston, and it looks like the eye of the storm is going to go right over us. We are tying everything down and sand baging as much as possible. It looks like our area will get about 20" of rain, and sustained winds at 50-70 mph. Our area has received lots of the Houston/ Galveston evecuees, unfortunatly, we will probably flood also.
If you can, please send good thoughts to everyone in this part of the country, as it looks like we are going to need everything we can get to make thru the storm.
Thanks.

Although its looking to hit the Texas/La boarder now. Gsmile, please stay inside and safe! If people havent evacuated already, best bet is to stay in, I wouldnt want to get stuck on the highway with this SOB on the way.
And there are tornados. TORNADOS! WTF??!! I should wear my striped socks and red heels....

Kalika, this just sucks!!! I just read that one of the repaired levee's just broke and the 9th district is now reflooded. The only saving grace would be that hopefully nobody is still in that area.
Our shelters are full of everybody from Houston and Galvaston, and I guess major chaos has broken out here. There has been reports of gunfire on the highway, shots fired at the local Walmart and Kmart. Looting has been happening at some of the grocery stores so store managers have been putting palets of food out front so people wont go into the stores and trash them.
WTF, have people gone mad????????????? I'm sitting at home here with my 3 kids, waiting for my hubby to get home and I am wondering if I need to get the gun out and load it????? It's just scarry, all I hear is sirens of either cops or firetrucks or ambulences.
It's such a beautiful sunny day right now, it's hard to imagine that destruction is just around the corner.
Stay safe Kalika, and we will stay inside and hang on tight!!!

Yeah, new orleans is reflooded. I saw water just POURING in. its a total evacuation though, there shouldnt be anyone left there.
P.S. I'd load the gun just to be safe, we have a couple here.
P.P.S. Charge up everything now that you can. Phones, gameboys, batteries etc. Make sure your freezer is very full, it will stay cold much longer if/when the power goes out. If its not full get some tupperware containers and fill em with water and stick them in to freeze. Locate all candles and flashlights now. Get that hand powered can opener out.
Ugh. Im soaking up all the internet/ air conditioning/ power I can beofre it goes out

Good luck down there everyone. Damn if that is not some nasty looking stuff coming up from the gulf.
Set your freezers down to the lowest setting and fill pots with water and put them in there. When frozen, they'll act as coolant when the power goes out and keep things frozen longer.
Also, fill your bathtubs to the brim with cool, clean water. In the event you need it, it'll be there.
Brace yourselves, here she comes... that beeeeyotch.
edit - duh. See Kalikas's post above.

I'll take an earthquake any day over a bad hurricane.
Batten down the hatches, girls! There's no way we can do without you on the board so I'm sure everything will be just fine.

Amanda, not all of the US is as scary as the hurricane and
tornado-prone regions. I'll side with my fellow Cali girl Syren,
that every earthquake I've been through (including Loma Prieta in '89)
was less scary than a hurricane.
Stay safe, ladies!

Is it just me, or is the atmospheric madness seeming almost apocalyptic? Or maybe it's global warming.
Sending good thoughts your way, girls. Be careful, and stay safe!

I definately think it's global warming, and it's scary.... I really wish you guys the best and I hope everyone is safe. It's just so crazy that so much is happening at once. It just feels like more is yet to come, who knows what, right around the corner maybe. Sorry guys, but this stuff just freaks me out. What's happening to our earth? It's catastrophe after catastrophe. I'm not major religious, but I believe in a higher power, and we all need to pray that this shi# will end..

Well... Rita's tree removal service struck. I guess I didnt need a fence after all
P.S. The gulf goes through cycles, about 20 years of rough hurricanes, then 20 years of lighter ones. Been that way since they started tracking weather.

Well we all survived!!! Lots of trees down, and destruction everywhere. We got lucky tho, nothing hit our house and we all are safe. We even seemed to dodge the heavy rain, only 5" in our area, now 15 miles away, they got 15" of rain and 115 mph sustained winds. We just got power back about 2 hrs ago, and I am already online!!
Thank you everyone for all your "Well wishes".
Kalika, you know, you probably didn't want that fence, but you just didn't know it yet. Good luck with the clean-up!!
