All the information for getting waves (brushing in the shower, etc.) are all spread out over the site so I thought I'd put everything I've learned on this sit into one post... Don't jump down my throat if you don't like it, just ignore it lol. This is just something to help beginners to create their own method. Chris How To Get Waves The curls/coils in your hair are the key to getting waves. If your hair is straight the you will not get waves because a wave is a straightened out curl. The curlier (or nappy) your hair is, the more waves you will have in your hair. Deep waves comes from letting your hair grow. Everyone’s waves will not look the same, it depends on your hair type. Some people have different textures throughout their head, therefore your waves may have a slightly different look or may not be totally the same. Though it may not be noticeable. Pomade is not what develops waves. So if you don’t use it, it doesn’t matter. Pomade is used to help hold down your hair and help define them, but it isn’t necessary for the process. Use pomade before your brush/du rag Brush hair at most 1/1 ½ hours daily Clean hair at least every other day to keep hair healthy Brush hair in shower to make them more uniform Wear du rag when not busy and to bed. Spray du rag with water or moisturizer while wearing. Get a hair cut every 2-4 weeks to make them deeper While hair is long, comb hair as well as brush (hard brush) Brushing: When brushing your hair start from the center of your head and brush out in every direction towards your lining. Example: From the crown to your forehead, crown to your left temple, etc. From your crown it should make a circle. Pomade: Pomade is not what makes waves so if you don’t use it, it doesn’t matter. Pomade is used to help hold down your hair and help define them, but it isn’t necessary for the process. Either place a fingertip of pomade into your hand and rub it until it softens, place it in a sink of hot water until it melts, or melt it with a blow drier, then apply it evenly into your hair. Thoroughly rub it into your hair with your palm. If the pomade isn’t melted, take a hot towel and place it on your head to melt the grease, or you can use a blow drier. After you apply the pomade brush it into your hair. Moisturizing: Use pink lotion or Scurl Moisturizer to keep your hair from drying out. Whenever you think you need it throughout the day. Ice Pomade: Use this pomade sparingly (going out, etc.), it is possible that it will damage or irritate the skin near your lining. Water technique: While you are brushing, spray your hair with water and brush it dry. Keep repeating this until you’re finished brushing. ------------- There is no such thing as a stupid question only a lot of inquisitive idiots. |

damn, i hate to be the first person to question this thread due to my history, but i got 2 questions. I agree wit everything else but i question the only brushing 1 1/2 hours a day. If thats the case then i need to pull back on my brushing by 40%. And the only other thing i question is washin hair every couple of days.....i was told by some dt members (cant remember, it wuz when i first joined) to wash everyother week?? ------------- I'M REPPIN EVERY NICCA IN DEES STREETS TO SCREAM AT ME!!!!!!

Blah! 1 1/2 hours? I don't brush that much and I haven't for a while. As far as washing I would say every other day or once a week if you use lots of products. Cheater, Do you wash every other week, cuz if so how does your hair feel? Is it soft, itchy etc? I usually wash every day and apply new moisturizer and pomade daily. Am i the only one who disagrees wit the u don't need pomade. Cuz if all u had to do wuz brush for a while, after 17 yrs of brushin everyday before I knew about waves, I should have some. I don't think it's possible for anybody to create waves without pomade. Even if i used water, all it would do wuz make my hair curly. i don't care wut anybody sayz it's IMPOSSIBLE TO GET WAVES WITHOUT POMADE!!! ------------- |

I have waves and didn't start using pomade until I saw results. Then I used it a couple of times and didn't like how it looked and went without. It's possible. And the only reason you did get waves before now is because you got your hair cut like every 2 weeks and you probably didn't brush as much. Besides ask anyone here, pomade doesn't GET you waves, it enhances them. I would tell them blue magic or shea butter, water, and a medium brush. IMO, shea butter is the best thing for your hair period. It will make it unbelieveably soft. I would say ask King, but his hair looks naturally soft. QUESTION: Why make the moderator's job harder? I'm a moderator (not here of course) and I don't like having extra work to do I'm sure others don't either. OK, I see I'm late on replying, but anyway... About washing your hair everyother day. I only said that because if you use pomade (and some other hair products) then you're putting mineral oil in your hair and it isn't good for your scalp or hair, so that wouldn't be good to have in your head for too long. I don't even wash my hair that much...Like I said, it's only a suggestion. I did hear that if you're just starting out with waves than it's better to keep it in for a minute. yep.. well the jumpy ones does. This forum has old software and putting all thoses smileys can lag up a computer badly. Since most ppl are on mozilla and off of Internet explorer.. it uses memory like ah *****. That said.. the computer has to use memory (your ram) and cpu power to make all dem jumpy green things jump. true, but theres not many sig gifs in one thread as many of the green things that people spam.. and the ish dat was on here eariler was out of hand. Wouldn't have da problem if people didn't "spam" the board wid dem.. da sig gifs arent spamming, so the extra spamming gifs (aka green bouncing) things shouldn't be causing the problem in the 1st place if they was used in a apporatiate way. Also, theres no way a page can contain 100 sig gifs and still be one page to cause a problem like the jumpy thingies. If you want to test it... spam abunch of green things and try to move down the page.... you cant real fast because your pc has to load all dat bs crap over and over and over.. and keep trying to go down.. ur pc is still loadin da ish into ram and back out. ------------- |

rite.. that just dosent add up. All the stuff u put in ur hair ur just washing it away. Its pointless. And black ppl shouldn't wash their hair everyday moms told me (I mean shampoo washing n conditioning) wash it once a week ------------- |

lol.. well ... 1. I think the ****s just nasty for MALES going a week w/o washing their hair. Especially if you have pomade etc. in there. 2. What wrong with washing it out? You can always put more back in. When you brush in the shower blah blah blah.. You are basically brushing AFTER washing. You can also brush while the shampoo/conditioner is in [whichever] ... I have washed my hair like.. Everyday for most of my life and I'm doing good. Black people can wash their hair as much as they want. If you dont want to wash your hair everyday than fine, no one is making you. I wash my hair almost everyday and I have more hair than the wavers on the board. ------------- Natural BC May 9, 2004 |
