Hi, has anyone else had a problem with the maxiglide
overheating (even on a low setting) and then the plastic around
the ceramic plates melting and smoking? I just bought my
maxiglide a few days ago and tried it for the first time last night.
I read the directions and cautions twice ,made sure i did
everything right, and even put it on a "5" setting (halfway). Not
only did it start burning my hair (my friend said you could smell
burning hair in the next room), but it was smoking from
underneath the plates, which I at first thought was the "steam"
feature, but then realized it smelled like plastic! I immediately
turned it off, unplugged it and it still was smoking for at least a
few minutes. The whole thing just overheated and the plastic
around the plates completely melted! My hair on one side
smelled like burnt hair for hours. I am returning it tomorrow to
the store I bought it from. I think I must have gotten a lemon
and the heating element was faulty. I've read that the True
Ceramic Pro has had the same problems, but has anyone had
the same experience as I did with the maxiglide?

omg that doesnt sound good, sounds like u have to send that back to the company i wouldnt tolerate anything that melts, mine doesnt melt at all and i put it on its highest temp, 10, i hope you get another one and this time its good because i have nothing but praise for the maxiglide, hmmm maybe your hair is still too damp when ur using it, i know that mine smokes a lot when i do that so i wait generally 24 hours till i straighten it, or if i cant wait i do a little bit of blowdrying just to get that extra moisture out. i dont have fine hair tho, its pretty thick, im hispanic and it has a bit of a wave but its not kinky curls or anything, i think i just prefer the 10 setting because it takes less time, but i think u should try from 1 up, sounds like u have delicate hair. o besides that my sister didnt like it, but because hers is damaged from coloring, i myself have never colored or treated my hair at all with any chemicals, so that could be a problem too.
good luck...tell me how the second one goes

That is so strange! There should be no plastic  so close to the ceramic plates. I had mine for a year and nothing like that had happend. Did you buy your iron directly from them? Does it have the MaxiGlide seal in the box to make sure is an original?
