Hi

I just bought my girlfriend some rollers with ceramic inserts inside in lots of sizes - without actually knowing what these were for and they didn't have any instructions. I also got her some plastic ones with 'skewers' to push through. The ceramic ones are not in a heater tray of any sort - this was just a Sally store.

I need to tell her about wet/dry, hot/cold and with/without gel techniques. 

She's got long BS caucasian thickish hair and wants to experiment with waves and curls before a possible perm.

Sorry if this is already posted but I couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me how she should use them? Many thanks.

Hmmm..I don't know why they would be ceramic if they weren't in a heating tray..try going to the website of the company who makes them. They probably have some good tips on how to use them and stuff.
 
In general, with heated rollers, you're supposed to blowdry your hair first or make sure its completely dry. She can use a good heat protectant gel or balm or something before blowdrying. Then after you're done blowdrying you put the heated rollers in your hair. The way I do it is just take a section that is the same size as the width of the roller. Place the roller at the end of the hair and roll down. After all the hair is in rollers, let it set for 15-30 minutes. (If the hair doesn't take the curl she can use a light setting spray first). When the hair is done, I use a teensy bit of pomade or serum in my hands and just run my hands thru my hair. And voila! An instant "Giselle" 'do:)

If they aren't to be heated, then she can try putting the rollers in each section after blowdrying(so the section is still warm). OR she can put them in on damp hair (with gel or some product in it) and let it dry. That might take a while though,d epending on how long her hair is:)
