Should I try my colorist again?

Last week I went to a salon and asked for the "most experienced" colorist that won't fry my hair.  I was a dark ashe blonde (with cool skin tones) and I didn't really know what I wanted.  First of all I asked her if she could do blonde on me and she suggested I only go a couple of tones lighter than my natural hair and that I should never go blonde because of my skin tone.  She colored my hair a dark goldish red with a few highlights and I'm not crazy about it.  She did treat my hair very good, and it doesn't feel damaged at all but I simply not crazy about the color.  Should I continue to go to her and be a little bit more specific about my needs or should I just try someone else? 

BTW I spent around $150 at the salon that day so IMHO I think I should "love" my hair but I don't.  It is better than it was before but it's still bland to look at.  I like experiementing with color because I like change often and I know I could trust her with my hair but on the other hand she seems very opinionated and might not listen to my needs.  So should I fire her and move on or give her another try???

so basically u wanted blonde and she didn't think blonde would u so u didn't turn out blonde?

If you're unhappy, go back and say so.  If you spend that much money on a service, you do need to be happy at the end.

Yes, true, I wanted to be blonde and she said I wouldn't look good with blonde hair.  But I thought that as a "cool" toned person I could easily have ashe colored hair.

   But won't that mean more coloring on my hair?  I want to give my hair a break.  And I'm not sure I want to sit in her chair for another session, she's really not that friendly and basically I'm afraid of what she'll say.  I'm not an assertive person anyway.  I know, I sound pathetic but really I don't know what to say to her if I call.

I guess it just depends on how unhappy you are.  If it doesn't bother you enough to go back and have it fixed, just call it a learning experience and pick someone else next time.

Well I called her today and she was trying to figure out what went wrong.  Basically she didn't leave the toner on long enough; it didn't look brassy when I left last week.  She's going to fix that for me on Saturday.  I'm gonna give her another chance only because I know she won't fry my hair.  I'll put an update on here after that.

I think it's good that you gave her a chance to fix it, since you did pay $150.00 for the service.  But beware of stylists who don't listen to you and just do what they feel like doing.  I have been going to a very creative stylist for the last year.  The first haircut she did on me was so beautiful - she got me hooked - but then I noticed that on each subsequent visit I wasn't so thrilled.  I have been to her a total of 5 or 6 times, maybe, and 2 or 3 of those times I've had to go back a second time and ask her to "fix" something that I didn't like about the cut she gave me.  I am not a picky person at all - but I do expect to be listened to when I ask for a certain cut or style!  The last straw was this past Saturday when I went in for a "trim" and left with a borderline shag with many layers.  I am disgusted with how my hair looks, and angry that I didn't learn my lesson sooner!  I will be returning to my former stylist, who always listened to me and never let me down.

I guess my point is - find someone you can communicate with well.  That is key to a successful stylist/client relationship.

There is a blonde shade for every skin type, and ur stylist, of all people, should know this. Why don't u ask her what shade of blonde would go wit ur skin type? Have her compare several blonde swatches on the color chart to see which tones work well with your face.

Well I ended up going in yesterday and she put a darker toner on it to get rid of the gold/red tones.  It looks much much better today!  I was able to get a better understanding of her as well.  She said my hair looked good the way it was but it was simply personal preference.  But now she knows what I don't like.  I am so glad I went back in because she was very helpful and I know I can trust her now.  I don't think I'd want blonde anyway because it's too high maintenance IMHO.  I really prefer color that I don't have to go in every month to touch up.
