After giving my girlfriend a new permanent dark brown tint - which looked darker than expected, the colorist then added a bright red vegetable dye all over which looks very garish and leaks when her hair is wet (she had forgotten this would happen and wasn't reminded by the colorist).

How can she get this red off as quickly as possible, perhaps washing a lot over the next few days? Is there anything that will dissolve it. And will she be able to have a new lighter brown tint soon if it still looks too dark?

It should stop doing that on its own after a few washes, or at least that's what happened when I've done my hair with veggie dye before.  If she's not willing to wait, maybe try washing it a few times in a row.  The dye should fade a bit after a few washes, too, so it shouldn't look as bright.
