I posted this in a thread but I thought I should make it's own topic:
I have a medium to dark brown hair I wanted light brown highlights. Went to my stylist, she tried gold brown, looks like copper. Went back the next day she tried another color, couldn't even tell I had highlights. So went back a third time, she used bleach and a toner. My hair is so damaged I am ready to cry.She promised me my hair would be fine, I asked over and over again about damaging my hair and she said not to worry. I am completely physcho when it comes to my hair, this was my first time ever putting a dye or bleach in it. My hair is dry and I can't count the number of broken hairs I have. My hair was so healthy, what can I do to bring it back and stop my hair from braking?? I only did partial hightlights but that was enough. I am ready to cry can anyone help me?? I am willing to pay any amount of money to get my hair healthy. Also ever since I had this done I gets knots all the time, I'm talking nests!! HELP!! Please
I have learned my lesson, I will NEVER dye my hair again, NEVER!!
Thanks

Use a protein pak to restore the pH balance of your hair and then treat it
VERY nicely - wash every 2 or 3 days at most, deep condition, and only
brush/thermally style WHEN NECESSARY.
Best wishes!

Thank you for taking the time to help. I can go one day without washing my hair before it looks gross and I can't do anything with it. Are there any products I can use so I can go longer without washing my hair?
Can I get a protein pak at the local drug store? Should I have this treatment by a stylist? Like I said I am willing to do and pay anything to get it healthy again. My hair is close to 19 inchs long so it would be hard to not brush.
Ugh, I wish I never did this!! She said she could but a darker toner in my hair to get it back to my normal color, would this do more damage?
I am new to all of this so I have a lot fo questions.

Dyeing hair doesn't necessarily damage ur hair excessive coloring with permenent dye does if its covering the samr area over again. Obviously u had ur hair colored by an extremely inexperienced colorist. Any good colorist will know to how add shine to the hair through coloring it while maintaining its vitality.

Ok, here's something I have learned about this year and it works good. Go to google and look up conditioner only wash....there is good info out there....basically ( here's how I do it...techniques vary though)Get in shower and wet hair, I use an old haircolor bottle and mix half conditioner plus half water. Shake well ....glop ALL this in your hair...mush around scalp gently but good...add more undiluted conditioner to ends of hair if needed. I then put hair in claw clip and do the rest of shower stuff. When all done let hair down ,add little water and massage around....it will almost foam. Now the cheap conditioners are best for this....The best IMO is Suave naturals lavender. Now rinse out....you are done. OMG your hair comes out clean and so soft!!!! . It sounds grose and like it won't work, but it really does get it clean!!! You can also dilute your shampoo with 1/2 water 1/2 conditioner and mix it all up, then wash with that too....it's more gentle. I used to have REALLY long hair and the best tips I can give is to treat it like fine lace. How you treat it while wet is one of the most important things for it. No tight twists in towels no brushing while wet or even damp. These two things will really reck your hair. You should check out some long hair sites too, they are full of great tips in keeping long hair in condition. I personally would love to get mine back down to tailbone length but after my most recent disaster I don't know what will happen with it. You may also want to look into natural or organic products that stay away from too many chemicals. One last tip to stretch washing days is to learn some up dues....wash hair, fist day wear down. Second day wear ponytail or brades.third day try bun or french twist. As the hair gets dirtier, the styles hide the fact.

I'm so sorry for your situation.
Yes, you can go to a salon and have a deep conditioning treatment done. They usually run from $25.00 and up. Ask around at different salons. These conditioning treatments are designed for hair that's been damaged by overprocessing. I had a deep conditioning treatment done one time -believe it was a Loreal professional system - and let me tell you, my hair was like silk for days. I used the shampoo/conditioner that was designed to be used in conjunction with the deep conditioning system.
At home, try washing every other day since you say your hair gets gross after two days (mine does too), and try air drying for the time being so you avoid doing more damage.
No worries - your hair will be okay. Take care of it and get regular trims, and the damaged parts will be gone soon enough.
Good luck!
P.S. Your stylist can bring you darker without doing more damage by using a deposit only color. But, do you trust her? Why don't you take some time, give your hair a break, and then look for a more experienced colorist who can help you.

Also, make sure that when conditioning you should only need to apply on
anything below your ears. If you apply conditioner to the scalp your hair
will get greasy that much quicker (I'm talking out of experience, as a very
hormone-ridden 15 year old!)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! A couple of people have said I received an inexperienced colorist, the thing is she has been doing this for a long time. I switced to her after my old stylist gave me a really bad cut and Chrissy (stylist now) colors her hair all the time.
I was stressed out the second time so we went outside for a butt break, there was another stylist out there that said she would have done the same thing, I don't know if she was saying that to cover her co-workers ass. Chrissy even called a few of her friends to see what she should do since my hair was not ending up with the correct color.
If her trying 3 times is the reason my hair is like this she is going to get a few choice words from me. I asked her about 10 times if all this would damage my hair. It's not like I sat in the chair like a mouse and let her do what she wanted. She knew 100% how important is was to me for my hair to be healthy. That really gets me mad (I am being nice with my wording).
The first two times she did not use any bleach, I always thought it was bleach that killed your hair? Is this not true, even the first two times she tried could do it even though there was no bleach used? My hair was fine until the bleach was put in, not knots or dryness. The first time was on a Friday, second time was Saturday and the third time was Tuesday. From Saturday to Tuesday my hair was great, soft and shiny.
Again, I will NEVER dye my hair again, NEVER!! I'm done!!
I am going to London in March and I don't want my hair to look like this. I don't know if I should cry or go beat her a$$!!

Woah woah, lol March is still a long way away, my only suggestion at this point is that u find different salon and and one that specializes SPECIFICALLY in correcting coloring mishaps...My only other guess at this point is that perhaps ur colorist was having a bad day, i mean even master colorists can make mistakes.
Anyway, here is a great site to help u find a good corrective colorist in ur area: http://www.haircolorist.com - www.haircolorist.com All the colorists listed are members of the American Board of certified haircolorists. They even have a msgboard where u can post concerns to actual ABCH stylists.
Btw, I go to London a lot, and trust me even tho a city like London sounds glamorous, u will see ur fair share of people who look like they've had hair disasters! Well i guess in a city as wild as London, particularly the dowtown, nothing should seem surprising! hehe.
Did she say wht developer strength she used w/ the bleach?
oops, sorry this is so long!

yeah, use loads of deep conditioner and a good moisturizing shampoo.
Then to make the hair appear healthier, you could tone with a clear semi permanent toner. (it doesn't contain any pigments, it's just supposed to add lustre and shine to the hair)
You can never repair your hair back to the state it was in before, but you can make it look healthy by using diffrent products.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to help
Veronica F -She did say what she used but being my first time I didn't pay much attention. I went to the website and sent an e-mail to someone in my area, still have not heard from them. I will try another if they don't contact me. I know March is a little while away but I want my hair back to normal now!!
Swede - You said that I can never get my hair back to the state it was before, even when it grows back?? My hair will always be dry, even the new hair? This is the first time I have ever put dye in my hair, and the last time I had a perm was maybe 12 years ago so for the most part my hair was virgin hair before this. My hair grows pretty fast, I had this done 3 weeks ago and my roots are already showing.
I used Infusium 23 over the weekend, my hair seems to like it a lot. I am still going to have a deep condition done but I already notice a difference. More breakage then I would like but I switched brushes and am really careful when brushing my hair. My plan is to get my hair as healthy as possible then use a deposit only toner (I think thats what I was told) to get the color out and NEVER dye my hair again!! Sorry had to say it

Swede was talking abt ur colored hair, but just keep deep conditioning and it should start to feel softer, also protein paks are good for damaged hair. Virgin hair, which is uncolored hair that gorws out will be the same as the hair on ur head before it was bleached and colored several times.
There's this conditioner that gets raves reviews called Nexxus Emergence i think.
Good luck with finding the stylist!
