Hello Everyone. I have waist length hair, slight layering around my face that I'm growing out. I henna every other month to cover greys. I want to grow out as far as possible without looking shabby on the ends. Right now my ends seem to be drying out and I'm not real sure what to do. I'm trimming my own split ends, I'm only shampooing and conditioning every three days. (could it be I'm not shampooing enough? Is that essential to retaining moisture?)  And Deep conditioning once a month. I take a multi-vitamin in the mornings plus a hair skin and nail formula twice a day. sleep with my hair in a braid, and don't use any kind of Iron or hair Dryer. I shampoo and condition with that Garnier fructis Long and Strong. Any Info on these products and also products that you all recomend would be appreciated!  I'm just using common sense with my hair, but I'm pretty naive as far as long hair care. Put your two cents in and I'll do the same in the other topics! I look forward to the feedback and I hope I can help others as well!

Common sense is the best sense! Your hair sounds fabulous. Will you post pictures sometime?

Welcome to the forum and I hope to see a lot of you on the board.

Hi Madalyne. I'm relatively new here too and let me tell you that this is such a warm and supportive board!

If you are already using Henna, why not try a henna/yoghurt gloss on your lengths for some added moisture and conditioning when they are feeling dry.  Or you could use Amla or Cassia for the same purpose.  Perhaps you could also try an oil as a leave-in for the ends?  Sounds like you're doing everything right though.

Hope that helps you and welcome

Henna yougurt gloss....hmmmmm that sounds interesting! I'm also REAL curious about the Mayo treatment mentioned in the other posts. I was reading about the "Sock curl" and tried it last night. Turned out great, and thought about applying the same principals but coating the ends of my hair with some sort of conditioner, just as an overnight treatment. I've wondered about the Amla and Cassia, but just never knew anyone personally that had tried them. Have you??

I'll have to have my husband take some pictures of my hair. I'll try to do that either today or tomarrow. (I don't think I speeled that correctly!HA!)

Hi Madalyne. Yes, the yoghurt is GREAT. I mix it with my henna (just henna and yoghurt) and after about 8 hours I get EXCELLENT dye release and it is so easy to apply (thick and "clingy"). If you want to gloss, you could add lots of yoghurt to just a bit of henna.  My hair is always sooooo glossy afterwards (and glossy didn't ever exist in the same sentence with my hair before I started using henna/yoghurt).

As for Amla and Cassia....I just did an Amla treatment 2 days ago and the results were fantastic.  It does GREAT things for my curl.  Cassia was not so great for me though, although I have read on the hennaforhair board that alot of ppl love it and find it VERY conditioning.   Everyone's hair is different so you just have to try them all out.

Good luck!

I'm DEFINATLY going to have to try the Yogurt!! I tried the Sock Curl last night with a little bit of Infusium 23 sprayed on my ends before hand, and the results were FABULOUS! My ends are soft and I have separated waves all over! pretty cool looking! wonder how long it will last. I'm gonna have hubby take some pictures here in a few minutes!

Pretty hair Madalyne!   Oh, and welcome!

IMO, shampooing your hair more often will not improve its condition.  Otherwise if you are happy with your routine and products, then by all means go with what works for you.

Nice to meet you Dave and THANKS! This growth is about 4 years worth, and my goal is to get it past my rear end. I've done it once before when I was little, and I have a cousin and an aunt with that length, so I think genetics are on my side. I don't plan on it getting much longer than that, but who knows! I vowed to grow it as long as I can get it. HA! That picture is the first time I've seen my hair full on. It's actually a little longer than what I thought. I'm on my porch in my pajamas! heheheh I'll have to get some GOOD pictures taken sometime.
