hey, im pretty new at this, and i'm in need of some help as far as bleaching/dying my hair. i used to go to a salon to get my hair done but costs to much now and was figuring i could do it on my own. so i want to try this... basically i got a really dark brown(almost black) and what i want to do is get it to a natural medium blonde around. what i was figuring that i would do is buy bleach and bleach my hair out, then buy the dye to match what i want. this method of mine seems alittle too easy and cheap to be true. so can you guys help out with this?

It certainly is cheaper to do it yourself, but there are some tricks involved.  If you really want to get into this I'd suggest at least reading this webpage, which explains a lot:  http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/4266/color.html - http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/4266/color.html

The key, as they say, is the color wheel.  If you get your dye at Sally or another beauty supply, you will see "base" written on the dye bottles and it will be a color.  This base color is all important to making sure you get what you want.  The most likely thing that can happen with this is after you bleach, your hair may go orange.  You ideally want to bleach until its yellow, then use a color with a "violet" base to counter the yellow and get you a blonde that is more natural looking.  Your trouble will come if you don't bleach past orange, then use a violet based blonde, your hair will stay orange.  You will understand after you read about the color wheel on that site.  This is also why its important to shop at a beauty supply shop (where you buy your own dye and developer), because you don't know what the base color is in the over the counter stuff.  If you have any trouble or questions, please ask on the Hair Color forum of this site, there are many helpful and knowledgable people there.

i am not sure where you are from but if you have this product buy

Gatsby a japanese product from japan has this ex high bleaching kit and this champagne blonde colouring kit. just use the bleaching kit then the champagne blonde after. its pretty simple to use only if you have virgin hair. coz i think they had everything premixed in the box, the extra high bleaching kit promises to bleach pass orange it actually goes yellow colour

I actually dont have virgin hair. When i get a haircut before i do it, i will have blonde still in my hair. And i don't think i saw that hair product where i usually shop which is in Eckerd. Any other bleach you can suggest? such as l'oreal or Feria or others?

Well i suggest you wait for you colored hair to grow out first. you can get unpredictable results with dyeing dyed hair.

try the feria blonding or bleaching kit, then use the loreal excellence  hair color range in the shade you want. the Excellence range works best with bleached hair because the Excellence range can be used on bleached hair. be sure to find an ash shade of blonde because ash shades will become a neutral shade if it is dyed on bleached hair.

another step is to use loreal HL (high lift) colouring range. since you have dark brown hair i think you can lift the colour to a medium blonde. go to you hair store to find loreal HL kit. ask the salesperson for help.
