Maybe u guys already realized this,, maybe not,,
but on saturday i was flat ironing my hair( i quit the
salon!!! yayyy and it came out perfect) and i was
wondering why even when i kept the iron down at
160 and 180 my hair practically burned my hand
when i touched it!! i suddenly realized that if u swoop
the iron down ur hair too quickly after the last one
you are perhaps doubling the heat so my 180 was
 actually equaling 360!!! and if u do it a 3rd time u
might be tripling the heat u began with YIKES!!!! i
know its gonna take longer but i think its better wait
a few seconds b4 touching the iron to my hair again
after the first swoop,,,i cant believe this didnt dawn
 on me sooner!

I always pause in between each stroke b/c when I touch my hair it practically burns my hair so I know the iron would.

I never thought about it like that before! I guess what I'll do now is
just iron my whole head and then go back and do it again, so that by
the time I finish the top and go over the bottom again it'll have
cooled down.

I don't recommend doing it back to back, Aseya.  That's likely why a lot of my ends started looking like raggedy old threads.

I never thought of it like that either but that really makes sense!  I will wait a while before swooping the iron back down also.  I need to do more than one stroke also....probably more than two in certain sections.

Did you use a heat protectant? I ususally need to go over sections more
than once. But I'm thinking that maybe if I had a better quality iron,
I wouldn't have to?

i think if ur hair is supercurly like a 3b regardless
of what iron ur using ur gonna have to go over it twice
or even more,,, unfortunately,, i def have to go over
more than twice in many spots but now i will try to be
 patient...

I did.  But repeated pressure and heat on your hair - particularly the ends, which are the most fragile - is going to overcome any heat protectant with time.
A better flat iron will give you better results the first time, though.
