I am trying to buy hair to have PB put in. I know you lose length with the
pinch braids, but I have heard 2 things: 1) you lose about 4 inches
becasue of the doubled over part 2) You lose almost 1/2 the length
becasue you fold the entire length almost in half.

Which method is more common?

Click on search up the top right of this page and type in pinchbraid, there are many different discussions on pinchbraiding. The link I just posted is one of them. I experimented with pinchbraiding but never did an actual install but several people on this forum have. Hope that link is helpful!

You should only lose 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the overlap. Of course, if you use superlong hair (like PlastikHaar), you can actually double it over (so a 46" length would give you 24" hair), but with most hair (including all human hair), figure that you'll need to order at least 2 inches longer than the ultimate length you want to achieve. :)
