When going from brown/black to blonde, you will most likely encounter a few steps of different shades. These should include orange and pale yellow. Just so you're prepared. |
OK Skeet first of all if you are interested in coloring your hair at a cheap price....goto a Cosmetology school and have it done there under the supervision of a licensed professionals. It is a fraction of the cost of a real salon possibly 25%. Typically the stylist is right there formulating the colors while supervising the student. Call a school and schedule a client consultation and tell them what you want.
If you bleach your hair....please make sure you don't bleach the hair past the PALE YELLOW color as it is the lightest hair should be lifted to. If you do bleach out past that stage you will overprocess your hair and cause severe damage and possibly even breakage at or near the scalp. I see it all the time with OTC products and stuff from Sally's. Professional products used by schools or licensed professionals are more gentle on the hair and that coupled with the experience of the stylists with the color is really what you are paying for.
Bleaching your hair then going in with something like 30 volume developer could cause breakage of the hair at or near the scalp. I wouldn't recommend anything stronger than 20 volume developer after bleaching your hair and you shouldn't need 30 volume developer as that is typically used to give you an extra level of lift vs 20 volume developer. With bleach you have already lifted the hair so there is no need to use something like 30 volume developer. After the bleach you are just depositing color so 20 volume is sufficient.
And one last thing about bleach....DON'T USE POWDER BLEACH on your scalp as it's typically too strong and will cause burns and irratation to the scalp which would also prevent you from being able to add color after since your scalp would be in a damaged condition.
Powder bleach is the most effective to bleach the color and the strongest lifting of bleach which also comes in cream and oil forms also. Bleach is a damaging process and one that needs to monitored and done closely....so that's why I recommend a cosmetology school or a professional salon so you don't damage your hair. Also remember bleach swells and expands as it's applied.
G'luck in whatever ya do but at least consider a school.
