i Think a good idea for when sleeping on hair is to wear a head scarf made of silk or satin, thats if u havent got a silk or satin pillow case, what does everyone else do with their hair while sleeping?

Hmm....I'm interested in this question too.  Can you really get damage from sleeping on a cotton pillowcase?  I find the satin ones a bit sweaty.

I don't know about silk, it doesn't allow for hair slippage across the material any more than cotton would.

Satin is excellent for hair slippage! I have heard of some longhairs sleeping in satin scarves, or specially made hats with satin inside, and liking it.  I got a satin pillowcase (you can buy them alone without the sheet set on www.tenderheaded.com - and some are on sale right now!).  I also braid my hair to prevent tangles.  I don't know if the cotton pillowcase really causes any damage, but if you slept with your hair down at may help make more tangles than a satin one would because hair stays stuck to it, while it just slips over the satin.  (So, I'm sayin' its probably not necessary, but if you sleep with your hair down it may make a difference).

I sleep with my hair:
  1. in a ponytail
  2. in a plait
  3. loose, tucked inside my pyjama top
  4. if I've had it in a bun during the day, I'll sleep in it too

my hairdresser told me that sleeping with you hair up, like in a pony tail can cause it to break.    but i don't listen to her and still wear it in one     hehehe

My hair is fairly long and when I sleep I do tend to sleep on it or my boyfriend is always pulling it somehow and sleeping on it as well. So all I do is I make a pony tail and then I take about two or three other hair ties and just wrap them around my hair all the way to the ends leaving space in-between but just so everything stays put. I have worn my hair like this to bed for some time now and I don’t notice any broken hairs on my pillow and I don’t pull it anymore so it works for me.
