I'm just curious about how much on average people spend on their hair? How much does it cost when you get it cut? How much do you usually pay for color?

The past few times I've gotten my hair cut it costed between $35 and $50. Last time I colored my hair (heavy highlights) I had very long hair and it was about $110, the time before that when my hair was quite a bit shorter it costed around $70 (for a moderate amount of highlighting).

- Biolage Shamppo and Hair Conditioner runs about $25 if I can get them on sale.

- I trim and color myself, so I save a lot of money there.  Hair color runs between $7 to $8 a box.

Check out the extensions forum sometimes - some of those styles cost upwards of $2500!

  • 4 different conditioners: about $10 per year total for all four of them
  • I trim my own hair, style my own hair without heat, no dye.
  • The value of my hair toys are about $200 total, but I am not buying any more for the rest of my life.... and I plan to live to age 100

Edited to add: when I saw this thread I thought it was about "how much would you sell your hair for"! and my first thought was in the millions.  I love my long hair.

I spend about 25-30$ on haircuts (every 2-3 months). No highlighting or anything...just cuts. My color is all natural. I do not purchase any shampoo or conditioners (my mom does though...I just don't pay for it). I also pay about 4$ for my hair styling stuff every 2 months.

How much does my hair cost?

It's free.  Grown from my own head.  No $ used for extensions.

Relatively small amounts of time.  10 Minutes to comb and braid, once a day.  About 30 minutes to wash, condition, and detangle, once per week.

A bottle of shampoo lasts a long time, since I dilute my shampoo at a ratio of about 10:1 (10 parts water to 1 part shampoo).  I use about 1 ounce of conditioner per wash.

I take several additional nutrutional supplements than I would otherwise (esp silica and biotin), but their cost is very low on a per day basis.

Haircuts?  What are those?   I don't go to salons anymore.

Shampoo and conditioner, about 16.00 per month.  Styling product, 20.00 every 3 months, cut and highlight every 10 weeks, 55.00.  Hair toys, about 50.00 a year.

My biggest expense is buying products that do not end up working for my hair type!!!!  I have given away numerous bottles of styling mouse and gels that did not work for my fine hair.

Yes, that's really me and my hair.  Great hair doesn't have to cost a lot of money.  But that's the salon industry's dirty little secret.  shhh....

Thinking about it, I probably spend more money on hair accessories than shampoos or styling products ^_^;; .  Usually my shampoos are cheap, maybe $3-4 per bottle.  I think the most I've spent was around $10 (for medicated shampoo), and I have been known to use the $1 kind ^_^ .  I might spend a buck or two on some random styling product (I'm flexible-- I'll use mousse, gel, spray. . . sometimes just a little leave-in conditioner *shrugs* ) once in a while.  Shampoos and product last me a long time, so I can go many months between having to buy anything.  I probably should spend money for cuts, but haven't been.  *shrugs*  Just been doing it myself.  Where I do spend money is for hairpins, clippies, headbands, etc.-- I see cute ones and it's hard to resist!  I had been trying to hold myself back, since I have so many already, but some of my older ones are breaking now, so I guess that's my green light ^_^ .

I spend about $32 dollars on my hair products every month and a half or so. I don’t go to salons because I don’t trust hair dressers with scissors! And I don’t trim or cut anymore and I have never colored or highlighted my hair.

Well my hair is expensive.  I get it trimmed/cut every 6 weeks for 30.00 dollars.  I get it highlighted every 3 or 4 monthes for a hundred dollars (my hair is quit thick and long).

I use only salon products - a litre of redken cool moisture shampoo and conditioner last me around 2 monthes 40.00.  I also use Redken vinyl glam which lasts me a few monthes for 15.00 and Redken Hot Sets which lasts me not very long for 15.00 dollar a bottle.

As my hubby says I am very HIGH maintence

When I highlighted my hair it would be $105 for the cut and highlight, just a cut is about $45.  It think it's really expensive but I'm quite attached to my stylist!!  She's become almost a family friend...and my mom and I switch off paying for my haircuts.

As for products, I try to use as little as possible and what's on sale, but the mousse that works best for me usually runs about $3-4 a can.  I recently gave up on the high price shampoos and conditioners because they always made my hair dried out and icky.   I really don't remember how much my shampoo costs now--I use Dove and I'm addicted!

Last April I got the cheapest haircut--Free!  I simply let my friend's mom cut my hair because she had been begging to.  Why pass up a free haircut? ;)

My second cheapest haircut comes on Tuesday when I go to the Vidal Sassoon School with my friend...shouldn't be more than 4.50 (in pounds...I'm in London right now).  We'll see how that goes!

I find that the more I'm willing to experiment with my hair, the cheaper it gets.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not

I hate when I JUST get my hair CUT and then I see someone's hair like Dave's!  Meaning I was just bragging about getting 2.5 inches cut off (but it REALLY  needed it). Anyway, I pay $35 for a haircut and the tip is $5. And for highlights it's $65 plus $10 tip every other time and $55 plus $10 tip the other times. I go about every 6 to 8 weeks. my hair has GOT to be growing faster cause I used to be able to get away with having it colored every 12 weeks. Not a bad price for the highlighting since the other place I used to go to was $106 (on up) plus about a $12 tip. As for the haircut, I think that is just RIDICULOUS seeing as I have very fine hair and usually only get a trim ... but until I get my hair all one length, I'm not trusting just anybody. I think the ALL salon prices are ridiculously HIGH and I resent it.

As for hair products, there's a WIDE range of prices. If it's something expensive that I want, I get it off eBay; otherwise I get a lot of FREE stuff cause I buy whatever is free with a rebate.

I don't go to salons, so cutting my own hair is free.

I used to dye it, and that would cost me 4 bucks to do my whole head and about a buck fifty for each root upkeep (I did it myself and dye at Sally is 3.50 and a big bottle of developer is under 5 bucks...and I only need a 4th of a bottle of dye for roots and the developer lasts forever).  I don't dye it anymore unless I feel like doing one small stripe as a highlight, a look I like.

My shampoo and conditioner are 7 bucks a bottle each, and they last 3 months for shampoo,6 months for conditioner (I dilute too).  My hair's pretty cheap.  You can see it if you click the link in my signature and go to my Hair Journey page (though its not impressive like Dave's! )
