Hey Ladies,

I was sitting here at work wondering how everyone on here knows how to do extensions. My reason for thinking of this was I was trying to figure out how I am going to learn how to be good at this. I really enjoy doing hair but I have a full time job and its awesome pay and I really enjoy it...at times lol. So, my question to everyone is where did you all learn how to do such awesome extentions? How did you learn this? Just practicing or actually taking classes on this?

I'll keep you all posted on how my first install goes, when I get all the stuff to actually do it.

I've never taken any classes, it's all reading and practice. Practice, practice, practice. That word can never be said to many times.  I'd love to take some classes tho, but since I'm not a hair dresser I'm not allowed to. So I had no other choice but to learn this way.

Some of us are licensed and some are DIY. Even with the classes I've taken I have learned so much just from the shareing of information on this board! Good luck with your frist install!!

Yeah, I just learned from reading, it wasn't that hard and everyone around
me is completely astounded that I could do it with just reading and
looking at pictures and stuff.

It's actually really fun!!

Being licensed, I have had the 'priveledge' (yeah right) to spend usually about $1000-1500 per class to learn each method.

But real learning only comes from doing it repititiously (is that a word?)

As a stylist, I'll try out new methods on willing guinea pigs that I  do not charge them a fee for the service.  I like to do about 10 full installs with any new method before I start charging for it.

It is highly recommended to get one of those mannequin doll heads on which to practice.

Also, it really helps to wear on your own head, any method that you want to offer to clients.  That way you'll know the 'ins and outs' of it from the client's point of view.

I have been doing extensions for for more than 10  years, and I still learn a lot of stuff on the Intenet, in forums such as this one.

Also, I have learned from going to hair shows as well, but again that's something that usually requires you to have a license.
