There can be any number of reasons why your hair is breaking. Could be damaged from chemicals, overdue for a trim, dried out from products...
I am curious about the ingredients in the B&B Oil Moisturizer (mineral oil, cones, etc)? That could really be contributing to dryness and breakage. You may want to find a new daily moisturizer. Also, Aphogee is a very potent product and may have been too much protein for your hair. This can cause your hair to become dry and brittle. And the baggie method works for some people but not for everyone.
I would definitely try clarifying (ACV rinse or clarifying shampoo) and invest in a good moisturizing conditioner. I do not currently use any drug store brands but, ORS Hair Mayonaise sounds like a good one to me. I've also heard good things about Motions CPR. As for a daily moisturizer, I like Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter and also use oils (L'Occitanne Olive Hair Care Oil, Carol's Daughter Khoret Amen oil and Hollywood Carrot Oil). I know the ladies on this board will have loads of product recommendations.
Also, I know many people are distrustful of hairdressers, but sometimes, a good trim makes all the difference.
I understand you are trying to avoid heat but, roller setting your hair and drying under hooded dryer is actually pretty good for your hair. (Heat from a bonnet or hooded hair dryer is indirect & can be controlled via adjustable settings.) My ends especially look better with rollersetting than when I just air dry since they are smoothed when wrapping around the roller. If you don't already have a dryer, maybe it's worth investing in one for the winter mos. Whether relaxed or natural, they are good to have on hand (even if just for deep conditioning). You can always alternate air drying with drying under a dryer. Can do other protective styles like twists, braids or bantus.
I know everyone is different but, the only time I have had a lot of breakage or excessive shedding is when I am neglecting my hair (not washing enough, blowing instead of using rollers, pulling back all the time, overdue for a touch-up) or using the wrong products.
Sorry for the long post. Just my $.02
