i worked with my beautician today, and showed her pics of a few women whom i thought had fabulous hair...she told these were "lace front" wigs...i asked her what this was, but really couldn't understand the concept...she had a bottle of glue or epoxy that is used for this process....

sounds dangerous!  i wonder if anyone has ever used this method? any pics?

A lace front is where the hair is tied into a fine piece of lace in the front hairline area. The purpose for this is to make the hairpiece hair look like it is growing right out of your scalp.  When applied, it does look like it is growing out of the scalp because that lace front mesh is is fine, it just 'disappears' as you put in down over your hairline.

The glue is used to adhere the lace front to your hairline, thus giving it the look of the hair growing out of your head.  There are also some hairpiece tapes that are used for this purpose as well.

I have used this method on a few clients, but I don't have the pictures.

Beyonce wears a lace front piece.  That's why her hair always looks incredible.

you're kidding!  i thought beyonce had plain old long hair.  man, i am so "in the dark" about hair techniques.. my beautician told me that tyra does lacefronts to cover her large forehead.

i haven't seen very many pics of her lately, but i always thought she wore bangs.  plus, i thought that was her hair as well...

When i read these "hair mags"..they are very vague regarding the models hair..especially a celeb...for years i swore diana ross grew her own mane..then found out later they were extensions. and boy was i naive about Sarah Jessica Parker, and the woman who played on "Judging Amy"...I thought they were born lucky to have such "long flowing locks", as they describe them in the mags..even paris hilton, and janet jackson..

who knew?

hey femme -

pay a visit to the black hair media boards for weaves/extensions (look under the links for beginners section). those ladies are all over lacefronts, where to get them, very helpful and plenty of posted pics.

I have been making them for clients for about 5 years now.

You can look at a few pics of mine at http://www.wigbar.com - wigbar.com .

Also if your in NYC we can set up a consult so i can show you.

Isaac-

What do you use on the front to keep the lace down, but yet won't rip out the natural hair upon removal?

helLoo everyone..am new on this site..and what a relief to have found u guys..

i also wanna saw that i too have been in the dark. i recently started doing the weave thing..my hair was in good shape but my god i was soo bored with it.

so hell now am into weaves. i too am curios as to how all these weaves are done so flawless and how to decide which ones i want to try. (my lack of knowledge is a shame since i am a liscenced cosmetologist) i hate working in salons, i actually got in the field to learn how to do my own damn hair. LOL

oh my gawd!  whoa!  wow!  that was interesting..i went to the wigbar.com site..and man oh man!  that's is so amazing..the wig head looked as if the hair came right out of the scalp...the "lace" per se looks more like a clear sheath..

do clients have problems breaking out from the glue?  i couldn't imagine having that on my hairline..due to my skin sensitivity..if i wash my face with anything other than "Dove Sensitive", i break out - even the glycerin soaps..

does anyone have a reaction to the tape or glue?

i have to admit, it looks great..someone in the shop stated that she preferred "infusion" weaves..what do you guys think about those?  is it a braid?

I'm heading over to the black hair media boards and see what they have to offer...

man, it looks so natural!

Beyonce has been wearing them forever. I heard that she paid roughly $40,000 -$50,000 for one of them. Whoever does Beyonce's lace front slips up at times and you can clearly see the mesh.  . .

She is gorgeous but sometimes she has her bad moments.

Beyonce could wear a turd on her head and still look beautiful!

LOL, metal, you got that right!

The movement of her lacefronts is what blows me away.

I called the other half in and said "Look at her hair!" And he was all, "What hair?"

Sorry for being so persistent with my curiousity...more questions..if the epoxy is so strong, how can the lacefront "Move" or slip?  or maybe i'm taking the posts literally?

If i had never heard of lacefronts, it might sound funny but i thought the mesh might have passed for some of that gel some of us use to keep our edges down.  (Amino pro, possibly?)

Also, i touched the epoxy that is used..it is so powerful, that if my beautician put it in my hair and suspended me from the Golden Gate bridge with it?  I'd still be swinging in the breeze while typing this message..is a glued lacefront capable of "slipping" or moving around? (possibly due to sweating?)..

and yes, beyonce can wear two turds on both sides of her head, and still be gorgeous...how lucky  is Jay Z?
