Okay, so I've qualified, practiced and practiced, done my mates hair ie I'M READY TO GOOOOO! So I put out the adverts and the phone rings! The first books a consultation and is a no-show and the next few calls are blatantly calls from other extensionists. You can just tell with the knowledge and nature of questioning.

So now I'm utterly disheartened! I don't trust anyone that calls and I'm convinced that everyone is evil!

Does it get better?

I'm afraid that it won't get better, at least in my experience.

I don't charge for consultations, mostly because it turns off the client.  But of all the consultations that I book, only 50% of them actually show up.

I have also been called by people who I think are stylists seeking info.  I briefly explain what I do, but if they want further info I tell them that I can better show them the extensions that I do in a consultation rather than try to explain it over the phone.

As long as you do good work at fair prices, than the word will get out, and you will get clients.  Keep the faith!

Hmph! 50% is shocking.

I admit I've made a few calls myself to check out the competition but I've never gone ahead and booked a consultation to try and make it appear believable. I've simply said I'm enquiring.

My prices are very reasonable. I use Bohyme and European (Euro obviously costing more) but I have a price chart available for anyone to see. Today I had someone asking a) Are you insured and b) How busy are you? The former is perfectly fair enough (though I'm still suspicious) and the latter is just plain cheeky! I know you have to keep the client happy but I refuse to answer questions such as these.

Oh well, back to waiting again...

I been there and it still happens especially if you have business cards..theres some ppl that just want to call and ask questions but are not completely sure of what they want and/or no show, and the others I too believe is other stylist calling to see what you offer/competetion. You just have to hang in there because I find for myself that word of mouth is my weapon and thats how I get majority of my clients. HTH

i can relate to what all of you said, i too get alot of calls and they say ok i will call back, i can tell if it is a stylist calling and i turn it around by saying, you really do want to go to someone who is experienced and has a full expanding portifolio, why dont u come in and let me educate you on all that is out there....

sometimes i do get no shows, i just chaulk it up to the business, if i have someone no show me and then calls for another apt, i tell then i need a deposit to hold the apt and the cost will be applied to the install.
