Ok, I'm a 15 year old bloke who's trying to grow long hair and I straighten my hair everyday, and I think I may have some problems.

What I use:
Dove Strengthening Shampoo, Loreal Protection Cream, pair of cheap Remington's straighteners. When washing in the evening I use Dove Intense Care.

Now, I may be getting a Straightening Perm, will this affect growth at all? I've been told today that my hair was brittle, so I fear my current activicty may be very bad. What do you recommend?

Thanks.

condition, condition, condition, and finally CONDITION!!!!!

i cant stress this enough. what i do to my hair (and my hair is fried by chemical damage from bleach and from thermal damage.) is shampoo with Matrix Curl Life shampoo. condition with Redken Extreme conditioner. protein treatments once a week with Aphogee Intensive Keratin Reconstructor and deep moisture masks after the protein treatments with Tigi Dumb blonde.

every item i just mentioned can be bought at your local salon, witht he exception of the Aphogee treatment. that can only be found at your local Sally Beauty Supply. (edited to add: i didnt notice that you were in the uk till after i posted. the only place i know of to have a Sally Beauty in the UK is in londons Picidally Circus.)

o and while you are at sally's pick up a good (well, better than remmington) flat iron (what you referred to as a "straightener") i use a Jilbere de Paris Porcelain Series flatiron in 1/2" plate width. depending on the length of your hair you could increase the width of the plates (the part that gets hot)

good luck, and i hope all goes well for you
