Hi Peoples;

When staying with my boyfriend I noticed that my normal shampoo causes tangles that I don`t normally get at home. I figured out that it must be the harder water that is in his area. (We live in different cities, but only 30 kms away). I know there is a water softner that the water runs through, but the water is very hard.

My hair knots horribly and as I`m growing it out I don`t want to damage my hair (its at the mid point of my bra strap).

I`ve tried leaving the conditioner on longer. I`ve tried using a leave in conditioner. I`ve tried using a spray after and a dangler product and I`m at my wit`s end.

Are there other people out there in a similiar situation? What kinds of products do you use?
Any suggestions would of great help.

-------------
Lori

I`ve never tried any of these but Malibu2000 makes a few products that might help

They have one set for well water and another for swimmers

I have seen these at Beauty Supply stores like Sally and they may be at regular stores too. They are kinda $$$ but if you are only using them once in awhile it might not be so bad. Especially if they work.

I`d say try the well water if you are going to try one.

Hi Lori. Don`t choose between your boyfriend and your hair just yet. Try using a chelating shampoo. Funny word, yes, but these are designed to deep clean and remove the mineral buildup typical of hard water usage. I`m sorry I can`t recommend a specific brand--I`ve got soft water--but perhaps someone else could. I`ve heard Malibu 2000 Well Water Action Shampoo is decent for people using hard water. Some chelating ingredients to look for in the list areL EDTA and Tetrasodium EDTA

Also, you might also try a silicone shine spray as you`re brushing your hair. Typically these products contain phenyl trimethicone, dimethicone or cyclomethicone and are used on dry hair to enhance shine, but if you spray them on damp hair it makes it MUCH easier to brush. You don`t need to spend a lot on a shine spray either. Regardless of price or brand, they are almost all virtually the same, with the same ingredients I listed above. Just look for those on the back and choose according to price.

And of course, keep slathering on the conditioner. Slip agents such as oils, quaternary compounds and silicone derivatives make it easier to pull a comb through your hair. I hope at least some of this helps you, and good luck! :-)
