So what are these burgundy strands, does anyone have a guess? Is it the blonde hair dyed and then crimped or are these some form of dread that's been placed in?

It looks to me like she had blonde crimped extensions plus micro braid synth extensions. It's cute! You must admit that she's been the pioneer of white women wearing them, and taking them to the next level!

It's burgundy raffia left over from one of her birthday presents, a bird started using it to make a nest in her hair, and well....

I don't think there are any micros in there, I think it Amanda is right.  At first glance I did think it was micros but looking at it better I think that it is just crimped and added, could be like prostyles or it could be synthetic weave

Syren:

It looks like some sort of synthetic hair that came crimped or possiibly in very tiny braids- it's hard to tell in the picture but if it's crimped it's came that way because the crimps are a lot tighter/smaller than the crimp on her blonde hair. I'd definately say it's synthetic.

When I was using the Balmain fusion system, they have hair in funky colors that come already crimped.  It was synthetic hair.   They also have dreads in funky or natural colors that you can install via fusion too.

I have one of those crimping units that makes the hair look like that. I would love to find those burgundy pieces to jazz up my head for Christmas.

does sarah have anything close to that color in plastikhaar? it could probably be either braided or crimped if she does. wait, on second thought, it could be braided. it would melt in the crimping iron.

Under my monitor/lighting conditions, it looks like PH's kirschrot.

It's definately microbraid hair of some sort - looks like micro zizi
braid to me, probably just braided in underneath at the back and
sides.
I have some in a different shade in my stock room and will check the
brand and stuff later and post it here.

Under my monitor conditions kirshrot is redder than that.  don't have my color ring handy though.

Burgund rot is redder; kirschrot is cherry like the picture. That was putting my color ring up to the monitor.

Amm, the shop near me has wawa in a colour similar to this, not as purple- mochachip may still have some kicking around, maybe she can compare it to the PH ring for you and give you an equivalent? It's only it 14" but I'd be happy to pick some up for you if you'd like.
