I know this is an old topic for some, but the contrast in the two top ladies on NBC's Today Show was especially striking today.

Katie's hair has gone a few shades darker this week, but it also looked very thin and limp this morning. Would there be any point whatsoever to getting her hair thinned out during a trim and coloring session?

When Ann let's her BSL/midback length hair down, the world notices. At least I do. She looked spectacular today. Her hair is longer than I've ever seen it. I wish she'd wear it down more often.

Alas, there are no photos of either woman from today on GoGoMags.

I know there was some speculation, probably accurate, that Ann's haircut would be in December.  I'll have to go back and look for the old posts but I think it was about this time a year ago that it became known that she was growing her hair long for Locks of Love.

As this picture shows, she certainly has the length now to do the donation and still leave her with some hair.  I guess when she does cut it I expect something on the order of a just past chin length bob type cut.  Not sure how many inches that would mean she is donating but maybe around 12?  I know the minimum is 10.  It will be interesting to see what happens with it and how they cover it on the Today show.

Or the LOL people could be just thorwing out names. I was reading another board I can't recall what one. About M Carrie sorry about the spelling (Singer) was also going to lose her hair also. Just wait and watch enjoy in the lenght untill she cuts it or not cuts and maybe reach her waist?

I'll be the voice of (slight) dissent on Ann - I think her current hair is
very blah. I'm all for long hair, but I wish she'd, you know, style it -
pick a part, put in a bang, a layer, a wave, or - no, don't say it! -
well, OK, say it - a curl. Right now it's just hanging there, flat, limp,
and perpetually tucked behind her ears, just sorta long for the sake
of being long. Most of the time I get the sense it's in her way and
she's annoyed with it. I hope she cuts it just because it'll force her to
try a new style.

As for Katie, we agree - blecch. Even another out-of-date, flat,
unflattering style would be a nice change from this out-of-date, flat,
unflattering style...

I saw that Ann looked as good or better than she had in a long time and most know I loved her with short hair.  By the 3rd hour of the show how ever, it was not looking too good.  She is a "hair player" and by the 3rd hour, it had lost it's curl and was back behind her ear.

Ann has been wearing her hair down much more often the past couple of weeks.  Moreover, as those latest pictures indicate, she's wearing her hair in front much more so you can really see the length.

I've been expecting the LOL haircut for several months.  I should be past the point of guessing when it will happen.  She has more than enough hair to donate the minimum.  I'm guessing if she wants to cut her hair on the short side, like a chin length cut, that she could donate 14 inches.  That's a lot of hair....maybe she'll do less and keep it closer to her shoulders.  Of course the delay may be because of the daughter.

Sorry to disagree, but there is nothing ordinary about this look from a TV news anchor. Very few, if any, have long, gorgeous hair. I cherish every day Ann looks like this:

I will admit that the reason I love "talking heads" is that most of them do have short hair.  I know it's true for my local anchorwomen too.

I am a fan of Ann with short hair but if she can keep it styled and not tucked behind the ear, or center parted or out of a pony tail, I would love her look with long hair

I guess I could have started a new thread with this, but Katie Couric has changed the part in her hair from the right to the left. I know this probably shouldn't be a big deal, but somehow she looks better today. I'll post photos if/when I see them. Here is the last shot on gogomag.com, showing the way her hair looked last week.

At the risk of causing a stampede of rabid speculation, Friday's (1/13) TODAY show will feature "long hair makeovers" with Louis Licari.  Combine that with the fact that Ann has been noticably wearing her hair down most of the time over the past couple of weeks and it appears the long rumored cut may finally come to fruition.

Just passing along the news,

Well, it could also just mean trimming 2 inches and adding some bangs. Like, one long hairstyle to another long hairstyle...

Honestly, though, it'll be nice to have this put to rest one way or another. (not that I'm forced to read this... but still...)

Tuned into Today this morning.  Ann was away on assignment; interviewing and "hanging out" with the new president of Liberia.

So Ann "dodged a bullet" in more than one way.

BTW, she looked great this morning.

I didn't tune in until 8:45 a.m. or so, but Ann was definitely on periodically this morning from that point until the end of the show at 10. I was under the impression she was filling in for Katie Couric because Natalie Morales was doing the news in Ann's spot. Ann's hair was down. It was a good morning.

Here's proof:

So, what I'm thinking happened with Ann is that they set the "long hair makeover" segment up and then for some reason she decided not to participate.  Why do I think this?  Well...

  • This seemed custom made for Ann to have her opportunity to cut her hair on the show with a name stylist (Louis Licari)
  • Natalie Morales did the segement, 'cause Ann was on assignment and out of town.  Seems like they would have rescheduled, 'cause it would a natural for Ann at least for the conversation with Louis about her own long hair
  • They only had two models.  They never have only two models.  There are always either one or three plus.  Where was the third?

Sure, it's circomestantial, but it rings true at least for me.  And is it just me, or does it seem like Ann got a light trim/shape up on her long locks of late?  Dunno what the deal is.

Oh, and Katie looks 100% better with the additional layering and flip.  Amazing what a difference a small change makes.

Could be Ann is, like Halle Berry, coming to appreciate her long locks.

I also noticed that Ann's hair seemed slightly shorter compared with before she was gone for the week.  It's hard to tell for certain because she usually has it curled but I could definitely believe it.

I wonder if she has decided to not do it...or what?  Maybe wait until summer?  I guess that is my best guess...that she and her daughter will do the donation this summer.  Maybe her daughter decided she needed to wait and that put the whole thing on hold.  It's also possible that she just decided 'no deal' although that does seem unlikely considering it had received some press.

I don't think she was ever donating. There was supposedly an article over a
year ago that said she was. The article didn't actually quote Ann, but
someone who said Ann was. If you Google Ann and Locks of Love, there is
no article and every link is someone who said they heard it somewhere. Has
anyone actually heard Anne say it on "Today" or anywhere else? I think this is
an Internet myth.

There have been numerous "hearsay" kinda articles, but she did indeed state that she and her daughter were growing their hair to donate on one of those Lifetime "Intimate Portrait" bio shows last fall.  She also mentioned that her long hair was driving her nuts and Katie Couric said she looked like Pocahontas (sp?).

So, it has been confirmed by Ann herself, but where that plan stands at this point is anyone's guess.  I still say it was supposed to be back on Friday the 13th, but something prevented it...

Why anyone is excited to see the hottest 49 year old in America transformed back to the old "boring" days is incomprehensible! I so agree with you, Bob. She has transformed her look. I am a short hair lover, so take this with a grain of salt.  I think her hair looks alright early in the show but by the end starts looking bad.  My wife had the same thing.  When her hair was long and she curled it....it looked great for about an hour but soon went to lifeless. Side note, my wife wears her hair short now - me, happy camper.

Well, so much for that.

Ann Curry confirmed what others have reported on this site: that she's only growing her hair to donate it to Locks of Love.

The conversation on Tuesday's "Today Show" turned to hair when Alexis Glick commented how beautiful an older woman (I'm paraphrasing) could look with long hair, using Ann as an example. Ann, sitting at the news desk, said she "hated" her hair and was only growing it to cut it and donate it to LoL. Katie Couric, who had her own new style going, countered by saying Ann did not hate her hair and it was beautiful. Katie said Ann's daughter had already cut her waistlength hair and donated it to LoL and that she credited Ann for also wanting to contribute to the charity. Ann noted that kids who had lost their hair and kids who would never be able to grow back their hair are the beneficiaries of LoL donations.

I was stunned; so much so that I didn't pay much attention to the rest of the conversation, which may have included Katie admitting she changed her own look and that she just wanted to have sex. I know the sex part was part of it, for sure.

Ann did not say when the haircut would happen or if it would happen on the air or what she was waiting for. I agree with the person who reported earlier that Ann's hair appeared to be trimmed. I wonder if LoL prefers all donated hair to be the same length.

Hearing all that, I won't be wasting much of my time praising the virtues of Ann Curry's hair, knowing for sure that it won't be there for long.

- I like Ann's hair shorter, but I gotta say, it looks really good in that
latest pic. Although it does seems to go lifeless by later in the
broadcast.

- Katie added some actual life to hers this morning with some - well,
they were kind of flips, almost loose curls, not quite either. I'm glad
Katie has broken out of her super-straight, one-length rut. But she has
this odd habit of trying to force more flattering styles onto her current
cut, which, without layers and bangs and a little volume, doesn't really
accept them, and so always has this halfway, experiemental look. Still,
with Katie I'm grateful for any change. If your goal is sex, Katie, then
cut the hair to match the 'do!

I missed that this morning of Ann talking about her hair. Didn't know her daughter had cut hers already, waist length is a lot of hair to donate. Ann confirmed it in her talking it is going to happen . We'll just have wait and see when it takes place. Hopefully not till she turns 50, but I doubt that. So lets just enjoy Ann's beautiful LONG LOCKs till it happens. I think she looks great with it this long, much better than her short cuts. wonder how short she'll go since she going to do it sometime. Not really short I hope

If someone doesn't like long hair on themselves, why would compliments
change their mind? She has to wear it.

Anne's hair looks about the same length it has for a year. If she hates it and
wants to cut it, why hasn't she cut it already?

Yes, there do seem to be certain ambiguities present in the situation.

Truly a shame, Kramer! I'll bet she's postponed cutting b/c she dreads all the negative mail. It's a sad thing when a woman with such feminine, spectacular hair "hates" it. Ah well! Bob

Bob, I have to question your presumptions here. How do you know
she'll get negative mail, or that she "dreads" it? Why is it sad for a
woman to hate her hair if she didn't grow it as a personal choice (but
rather for charity)?

I understand your disappointment and the advance mourning of the
long hair - I'd be the same way if Melina Kanakarides (sp?) were
having her curls chemically straightened. But I wouldn't fault her for
being sick of a style she's tried for a long time, or assume she gets
negative mail. Except from me, of course.

Hoefully she does it on the show. I would like to see her cut it really short above her ears.

By the way, the last two days, Katie has had her hair parted on the left side again -- the way I prefer. However, she also seems to be tilting her head more as well.

"Mourning" is way too strong a word. I rarely watch Today even *with* Ann's long hair. When I do tune in, the hope of seeing it is the only reason, I admit! (lol) But 90% of the time I think of Ann, it's b/c of her threads here. Any time a woman attains such magnificent tresses, yet finds no joy in them, I find it a little sad.

This probably belongs on the "Politics" board, but I think many "professional" women who grew up in the 70's have an ingrained belief that long hair fails to garner respect from others, and that the hair itself is "girlish". I think that theory is outdated, but persistent. I was hoping that through Ann, others might break free of the bonds of the stereotype. Maybe she herself has, or never believed it in the first place, but I have difficulty comprehending that after all her effort in *intentionally* achieving her wonderful cascade of hair, she now claims to "hate" it.  Smacks of past hauntings to me. Blessings, Bob

Ann talked about her impending haircut this morning because Katie and Matt were discussing that many viewers had written the show following the segment about long hair on 40+ year old women to say how much they liked Ann's hair.  Ann reiterated that she was growing her hair for LOL and that she hated having long hair.  She said she hadn't cut it yet because the show's producers were controlling when the cut would occur but they'd just decided that Ann would have it cut on the air on March 1.  Ann offered to let Katie do the cutting, but Katie declined.  They did say that the producers were debating having a contest to see how Ann's new style should look but hadn't yet decided if they'd do that.

That explains why she hasn't cut the hair. On TV, you don't control your hair.
They worry about what people like Bob think and take their time to make a
decision. It's one of the trade offs of getting paid so much.

All I got to say then  is lets enjoy Ann's beautiful LONG LOPCKS till then / Hopefully maybe if we try hard enough the producers will tell Ann to keep fairly long ,if not really long. Maybe it;ll be waist length when all done and said

This style is what I would love to see Ann go back to.

Shaved up the back I doubt it but could be fairly short. I'd rather see some length to it.

Well I did post on the Alex about NBC having control. So with this info about her getting it cut March 1. Now let the games start. Why not bring in the chair from Fear Factor? Bring in rateing for both shows?

WHAT A SHAME if Ann Cuts her gorgeous hair!!! It is the only thing that makes the otherwise boring Today Show worth watching.

"Locks of Love" is a FRAUD!! The hair that Ann will supposedly cut will be sold to a wigmaker and the proceeds go to LOL. Supposedly, LOL uses the money to buy wigs for children who need them. They service about 100 children a year, but they obtain hair from thousands of misled and unfortunate women. They don't actually use the hair they obtain to make a wig for a child with cancer. If NBC wanted to be journalistically responsible, it can investigate this organization and unearth the facts rather than provide it free publicity. I intend to write the producers of the show and tell them that.

DesertDavid, I don't know if you are aware, but we go through the "Locks of Love is a fraud" argument about 3 or 4 times a year.  Let's not rehash that.  If she would not be donating her hair to LOL, I believe she would have cut her hair a long time ago.  She has made it very plain that she does not like long hair.

I'll be amongst those cheering and waving little flags when it's gone, that's for sure!  As for polls to decide the style, I would like to be in one, but I also have to think if there were one, I'd be out-voted by all the rabid LHFs, and never be heard :-P .  Bleh.  Maybe better if she decides for herself rather than catering to the whims of others.

Fear Factor chair would work just change it up a bit more. we know what 10 has to be cut so why not just add inches. LOL. Look I like it long but she is going to cut it why not have some fun. There is nothing anyone can do about it so joke and have some fun.

Since the "Today" producers want to do the cut on the air, I can understand
why they're waiting until March 1. With Olympic programming coming up,
they likely want to focus on that for the next few weeks. Ann might be on
assignment during the Olympics. If so, I hope she likes the water (for
shampooing) in Torino.

Well in today's show Matt was talking to Kate.C. Telling her that him and AL were going to join her there in Torino. She was in Rome.

Well the way I see it, if you like Ann's hair so much and want her to keep it and try and persuade her from cutting it, do like I and some friends of mine have done.    Write to the NBC e-mail address.  Let her know how much  you appreciate her Gorgeous long flowing hair.  You just never know what positive responses can do.  You have about 23 days to persuade her not too.  Send those e-mails by the thousands. They will get to Ann if you put Ann's hair in the topic.   Lets let our voices be heard!

I'm not one to rain on anyone but I think as she said she don't like it long. So no matter what we say unless the suits of NBC want to do like FOX did with it's shows no hair cutting allow. I also think that is wrong also.

Thats true, but just want to let her know that not everyone is for this big cut.  The more we e-mail telling how much we Love her hair long, maybe it will help in being less shorter style if she goes through with it.   I`m making a Ann Curry tape showcasing her long hair and will treasure it.   L.O.L. go easy on Ann's hair if you don't change your mind.

Remember she grew hair out with daughter because she mom too so  it will be cut to keep her promise to her daughter. Just a matter of how will be cut. Ann looks great short or long. hope shoulders but no shorter than chin , but could all gone short above ears loike some would like to see. her and the producers chopice unless they ask our  opinion of what style she should get

The only thing I have seen dealing with this from NBC they are looking for more hair to be cut with her. I have to word this right just in case this also brings out more debate about LOL. And that we have beat on and will still do it for a long time. Untill they go under or we run out of strong Anti-LOL. I'm one but not as bad as others. (For me cost can be high if you don't do something the right way.)

Well out of the 3hrs,  Ann had a grand total of about 5mins because of the Olympics coverage.  That just being doing the news.   Her next actual segment might not be until March 1st.  :(
