Hi , I'm pretty new at this... could someone give me tips on how to
prepare a picture to go in my avatar? I have been going into Photoshop
(I'm a graphic artist actually, so I'm a little embarrassed that I don't know
how to do this) I just can't seem to knock the image down small enough
to less than 15KB without the image size being like a spec. Any
suggestions? Maybe I'm just approaching this wrong...

I use a program called Irfanview that's available for free on the 'net.  You can download it or if you send me your picture, I'll resize it to the maximum avatar size and send it right back.  I'll be at tbd@psulias.psu.edu until around 4:30 EST.

Wow, that would great actually. I tried to download Irfanview but they
don't have any versions for a mac (infact I find alot of fun like things like
the Emoticons don't work on a mac, which stinks) I'm going to send you
the picture now, I really apreciate it! Thank You!

Sugaree...I'm a graphic artist too!!! Wow

Anyway, just use the crop tool in Photoshop (set it to 64 x 64 pixels) and crop your image.  You can also use "save for web" in the File menu to optimise the image.

Hope that helps.

You can also use a site called tinypic (search tinypic on google) which will will give you tiny urls etc for your image.
