Lately ive been wearing my hair on the longer side. It seems everytime I try to get a new cut I come home in tears. I think the problem is I dont know what cuts would look good with my hair texture. My hair is coarse and thick. If I dont blow dry it and straighten it its everywhere, sticking up and twisting in all directions. It look very dull (as in not shiny). Some parts are curly (around my face) Some are just wavy (the sides) and some are pretty straight (where its the thickest). I dont know what to do with this mess! Its very 'puffy' and ruff to the touch. I can tame it with styling products and a flat iron (like in the picture) but Im sick of this same look. Any idea on what kind of style would work with this type of hair? Here is a picture you you can get an idea of my face shape and what not. But remember my hair doen't look like this naturally. Thats after quiet a bit of time in the bathroom with the blow drier and straightner.

I know it seems like alot of trouble for you, but that straight look on you looks great, imho. Maybe try some sideswept long bangs/fringe. Is your hair easier to straighten when it's shorter? Also, maybe try some shine spray. It tends to 'tame' wild hair and make it shiny at the same time. Good luck! -------------

| If you get some LONG layers it would get rid of some of that fullness and make it a bit easier to style. And go for some face framing layers in the front as well -- long ones -- no bangs. I like the color. Condition your hair well and do a deep conditioner at least once a week (do you?). I use something called Sheer Blone "Spotlight" by John Freida. I LOVE it. It detangles, defrizzes, and most importantly, adds SHINE. I think you should try it. I've tried others but I like this one best. I mix it with a leave-in conditioner (I use a little more than a pea-sized amount of the Spotlight and then a quarter-sized amount of the other stuff.). You might want to try that too. This is in addition to already having conditioned in the shower. All this might help tame your hair. It's got to -- my hair is fine and it works for me. |

| You have a long face and high forehead. Bangs would help minimize that which I'd recommend. You could wear an angled bang with a side part to help offset that. You haircut already looks like a long layered haircut it's just grown out some. If you want to keep the length I'd bring it up slightly and put in some face framing layers for softness. The angled bang is something I'd try first before you cut them straight across. Have the shortest piece begin just above the tip of the nose and angle down and blend into the side. Wearing a side part it would look great on you. |

I'd suggest you play with your hair more in its natural state.
You look great in the photo you showed, but it sounds like a lot of
work to fight nature. How do you treat your hair in its wavy
natural state? Do you know the secrets wavy haired people use to
get their hair looking great with shiny defined waves? (Such as
don't brush it, don't comb it after its dry, don't use a blow dryer,
don't use an over siliconey conditioner). One website you may want to

There is also a book called Curly Girl that I've heard recommended many times by wavy and curly haired people. Your hair appears to be its natural color and not damaged, so there's no reason at all it shouldn't shine. If you have very hard water, it will make your hair look dull. So will using products with lots of silicones because they can build up (anything in the ingredients ending in 'cone). Try a clarifying shampoo once every 2 weeks to remove buildup, and if you have hard water use a diluted vinegar rinse (like a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of water, it doesn't have to be very strong) to make your hair soft and very shiny. Yes, the vinegar smells, but it evaporates and won't smell after its dry. Thanks for posting your whole body, since body shape is a factor in hairstyle. Obviously, you don't have anything to worry about since your body looks nice. From your description, it sounds like you are tired of "fighting with it" to get it straight....if this is the case, you might want to try and get a shorter cut (around chin length) - less weight - more natural curl. I would also get layers cut into it - this can take out the bulkyness - again releasing more natural bounce. You also have a slightly long face - I think bangs would look good on you - this will help "cut the length" of your face. You should have a stylist cut it to excentuate your natural "wildness" in your hair. The other option would be to go super short - pixie cut. I think both would look good on you. |
