Combing is almost always gentler on hair, especially a wide-tooth model with flexible prongs. There used to be an old wives` tale about brushing hair 100 strokes every night for a great head, but all excessive brushing does is work away at the hair cuticle and can lead to breakage. Always use a comb on wet hair--never a brush--since hair`s hydrogen bonds are temporarily broken when hair is wet, making it more damage prone.
