Hi!

If I were you I wouldnīt do it! When I was 15 I attempted to die my hair blonde and it completely failed! My hair is a very dark brown colour naturally and the die turned it ginger. A few weeks later I put another die on it thinking this time it would turn blonde but it didnīt work I just kept getting different shades of ginger. I kept dying my hair for about a year or two and my hair became dry like straw. Then I had to waste years growing the died hair out and cutting it off because it was just so dead.

Iīm not saying donīt do it fullstop but if I were you Iīd go to a hairsalon and have it professionally done. Another problem about doing it yourself is that you put it in un evenly and tend to miss bits at the back. Also bear in mind that it would be very high maintanance, if your hair is dark then you will have to keep getting your roots done. Not only that but if you do decide to die your hair back to itīs original colour because your hair is not reacting very well to the chemicals in the die then your hair will always be drier and frizzier than before and when fresh hair growth comes the old died hair and the new hair will be of a different texture and you will probably have to cut it like I did.

But itīs totally your choice and I hope my advice is of some use.

Hi Farai,

I agree with Live aus Berlin.  Assuming you're talking about permanent hair color, you would initially need an agent to strip your hair to remove its natural pigment, because you can't jump from dark to light.  And then you would likely have to go blonde in steps to avoid unwanted shades and severe damage.  And the upkeep might not be worth it.  I asked my hairdresser about the possibility of my going red, and she told me flat out that my color was blonde, and that it would do so much damage to my hair to be blonde that I would need to go natural and short.  It didn't sound like a good trade-off to me.
