Kind of a long shot here, seeing this forum seems a little slow.

 I just got my hair done yesterday. Dyed, cut, and styled. I really liked how it came out, and I knew I wouldn't be able to style it like she did. My hair gets super poofy and horrible when it's blow dried. She recommended a chemical straightener (how long do they last)? I tried to style it this evening after rinsing it, tried to do it like she did but it is a pain. I don't really want to go back this week, but I don't want to deal with this. My flat iron isn't doing anything for my hair. Of course hers did, but she had top line. Should I get a chemical straightener? Will I not need to use a flat iron anymore? Will styling my hair be easier? By the way, I'm a male with a somewhat longer than short hair style.

I think you should phone the salon, explain that you are having difficulty with styling and ask them to fit you in for some hands-on advice this week.  A good stylist should explain how to style your new cut at home when he or she is doing it themselves after the cut so they should be more than happy to provide this service to you now...

That is a good idea, if they can tell you a way to make your iron work on your hair and straightness is really necessary.  Chemical straighteners are permanent and very damaging to hair. It may matter, depending on how long you want to have your hair.

There's no way to work with your hair in its natural state so you don't have to work so hard at it?  Sometimes these salons seem to give you straight hair if you've got naturally curly, and give you curls if you've got naturally straight (keeps you coming back I guess, but probably more work than its worth for you).

If you really want to stick with a straight style, you may want to invest in a good iron (they can tell you on Straight Talk which is a good iron, I don't personally know - and get advice there about chemical straighteners to see if there are any that are less damaging).

I don't really want to go back so soon and spend another wad of money. I won't get a chemical straightener if that will mess up my hair.

 I don't have a style that requires much. Blow dry, flat iron, and put some crew stuff to weigh it down. But I can't do this with my hair like it is now. I'm going to use my sisters flat iron, which is a top of the line brand and see if it will work.

Top of the line flat irons make such a difference.  I bought a Chi myself a few months ago and it was one of the best purchases I have made.  Ulta has them on sale this month too.

The one I got was a vidal sassoon ciramic, and it's not doing anything.

When you were at the salon, it would have been good to ask her what she was doing. Products can be expensive, but if your new look appeals to you it may be worth it! Mess around with your hair for a while, and maybe you'll get it like your stylist had it otherwise, I agree, calling the salon would be a good idea! Chemicle straightening works, however, a lot of money needs to be spent to get it so it doesn't damage your hair.

She did tell me what to do step by step, as well as giving me the same products she used. I'll call her tomorrow.
