I just recently (yesterday) had bonded wefts put into my VERY short hair. I have never had extensions before in my life. My hair used to be very long but once I cut it VERY short I have been unable to grow it back out long because of different reasons.

My question is how long do bonded wefts last? How do I care for them? What are other options for very short hair that last longer and are very durable? I opted for 12 inch 100% human hair and so far it rocks! I can feel the wefts in my hair when I touch the top of my head. Is that normal? I have very fine hair. It didnt cost me alot ot get my hair extensions ($25.00 for hair, $50.00 for putting them in) but she told me they would last 2-3 weeks tops. Is there another way to get the same look I have now but that will last longer? Will the bonding glue damage my real hair? Im wanting to wear extensions until my own hair grows out which will be about 1-2 yrs. Is it safe to constantly wear them? ANy infor would be appreciated. Also here is a before pic and an after pic.

welcome to the board babygurl. Your extensions look GREAT! As far as how long the bonded wefts will last depends on a few things. Mostly it depends on the type of glue that was used and whether or not the wefts were 'sandwiched' between layers of your natural hair.

There are LOTS of options available. If you want to stick with bonded wefts the best options IMO are Liquid gold glue for bonding wich easily stays in my fine hair with the 'sandwiching' technique for 7 weeks, or the pro-tac tape strips for doing the 'sandwich' technique which will also last around 6 weeks or so.

Besides that there are several easy individual strand methods that is easily accomplished by a DIYer. Like shrinkies or microrings.

Most likely the hair that you had installed is a cheaper beauty store brand and probably wont hold up or wear for long. Decent hair that will last a while will be a little more expensive. But there is some decent quality hair out there that will hold up for 3 months at afforable prices.

I think the main thing with any method of extensions to prevent damage is careful installations and even more careful removal....lots of patience and carefullness during removal.

Check out the thread at the beginning of the board called extensions 101 for beginners. There is loads of great info and links there. And also on the board, the pages and pages of great info from alot of professionals and experienced DIYers.

Again....welcome, and good luck!

I still swear by the http://www.chrissyv.com - www.chrissyv.com glue for weft  bonding.  It's expensive though.

oh yeah....I almost forgot about the chrissyv glue! Yes it is great stuff and much easier to work with than LG, but not as available to DIYers and alot more expensive! I always ordered from her website....but, my hairstylist used her cosmotology license to order the glue and installed them initially....after that I continued to order the glue no questions asked. The website asks for license #....so Im not sure if the would sell it anyway without the license# or not........???

I used to use ChrissyV a long time ago (before I started doing fusion).  It's way too expensive for something that lasts no more than maybe 5 days in my hair.  It's supposed to last a number of weeks, but that was not my experience.  It IS very easy to work with and a total breeze to take out.  It just didn't last for me.  I'm going to try Liquid Gold.
