having gone from too yellow (home double process) to too ash blond ($200 professional double process- both in the same week!) i really need advice on how to get the color back to light blond. It just looks dead as it is. I can get my hands on professional products if need be. ideally i am looking for some gentle soultion, like a tinted moose, shampoo or conditioner. thanks in advance |

Don't give up yet. This board has great suggestions. I really like Redken EQ shades. These semis are very gentle, smell good, and do great things for your hair. What level is you hair? and what are level are you trying for. I would use the same level with the correct tone to cancel out the ash. Redken EQ has a lot of shades and tones to choose from. I get it from ebay and they will explain the bases/tones on the sites.. If you want to try the correct tone, Roux Fanci-Full a (at Sallys and convient stores) has a line that washes out in one shampoo. That might be a start to find the correct tone/corrector...just to get an idea. Good luck, Braelyn |

I have a question if anybody can answer it. Sorry to cut in on your post, Gooner. My question is HOW do you KNOW what level your hair is when there are SO MANY variations (variations to the hair I mean)? And once you decide what level your hair is, HOW do you know you're choosing the right level hair color/toner? Want2B, you said "use the same level with the correct tone to cancel out the ash." What if you THINK your hair is a level 7 but it's really a level 8? For example, some people will say their hair is dark brown when it's really light brown. Also, how do you know what "tone" to choose. I know all about the color wheel; what I'm saying is a person may THINK their hair is a certain level when it's not and they'll end up choosing the wrong level of product. Do you understand what I'm saying? |

I thought my natural color was a level 8 ash blonde. With a professional's opinion and letting more new growth show than in years, we were thinking it's really a level 9 neutral blonde. After getting lowlights in that range, we found it's somewhere in the 9 ash/neutral blonde range (which will take some mixing of color). I guess my point is it's very hard to tell. It also depends on who's color swatches you are looking at.......this is based on Redken EQ colors. -------------

Alayney: I know it is confusing. I have not seen my natural color in years and I am still debating between a level 4 and 5. If you can see your natural color, go to the manufacturers website (all except Redken, because it is a "professional" product, meaning they don't advertise) but like Clairol, L"Oreal, etc. They have a bunch of colors to choose from and match the best you can. That is all I know because the samples of hair in the stores or Sally's are not real hair, so the color differs. You can go to a colorist and they should be able to tell you. Warning: I have been to two and they both were way too dark and one was not even the right tone (ash versus natural). These forums are very helpful in learning... Good luck Braelyn |
